Purification Test
For our purification test, we place the Air Oasis iAdaptAir in a medium sized room in our office. From there, we take a baseline measurement of the current air quality and then run the air purifier on the highest setting for 1 hour.
After the hour has passed, we take another set of measurements and compare them to the baseline. This comparison of the baseline and post-run data helps us to determine the purification performance of the iAdaptAir L.
Starting Baseline
- PM2.5: 2.6
- PM10: 4.2
- Particles: 639
- AQI: 11
After 1 Hour
- PM2.5: 0.2
- PM10: 0.3
- Particles: 63
- AQI: 2
Within the 1 hour test, the Air Oasis iAdaptAir L removed 90.1% of air particulates from the medium-sized room we tested in (~14’x10’).
The air purifier improved PM2.5 air quality by 92.3%
In order to get these measurements, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S+ professional air quality detector. This device allows us to get precise readings and air quality data before and after the test.
Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality.
Overall, the iAdaptAir did a great job at removing harmful contaminants from the surrounding air.
The Filters
The Air Oasis iAdaptAir achieves these results with a combination of 6 different filtration systems.
These include:
- Pre-filter
- HEPA filter
- Activated carbon filter
- AHPCO filter
- UV light filter
- Ionizer
The pre-filter is fairly standard among air purifiers, is easy to clean, and removes large dust particles like pet hair.
Next, the HEPA filter acts as the main filter and can capture particulates as small as 0.3 microns.
Working with the HEPA filter, the activated carbon filter removes VOCs and other odors.
The AHPCO filter uses a catalyst that, when UV light is intensely focused on it, creates an oxidation effect that works to eliminate indoor air pollutants such as mold or bacteria.
The UV light filter uses a UV-C light to inactivate airborne pathogens like bacteria and mold.
The final filter, the ionizer, generates positive and negative ions that can attach onto harmful airborne particulates, forcing them to fall to the ground. Air Oasis states their Bi-Polar Ionization is CARB-certified and doesn’t create ozone.
Both the UV light filter and the ionizer can be toggled on / off depending on your needs.
Noise Test
To test the noise generated by the iAdaptAir, we ran the air purifier on each mode and used a sound meter from about 3’ away to measure the decibel level.
Our results showed the following decibel levels from each mode.
Low
26.5 dB
Medium
31.1 dB
High
37.6 dB
The noise test showed the iAdaptAir L to have a noise range between 26-38 dB. This is fairly quiet for an air purifier with this coverage level, and is similar to the sound of a whisper or quiet library.
Common noise levels:
- 20 dB – rustling leaves
- 30 dB – whisper
- 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
- 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
- 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
- 70 dB – traffic, showers
- 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone
Usability Test
Usability for the Air Oasis iAdaptAir L is excellent. It is easy to set up, has features for automatic use, and is simple to maintain.
Setup
Setting up the device is incredibly easy thanks to a few included accessories.
Here is what comes in the box:
- iAdaptAir L air purifier
- Base (screws included)
- Power cable
- Manual
The only required step before your air purifier is ready to operate is attaching the base. This does require a screwdriver, which is not provided, however, it is definitely recommended.
The height of the iAdaptAir L makes it susceptible to being knocked over accidentally. The base increases the air purifier’s stability, reducing the chance it would get knocked over or damaged.
Please note, the base is included with L and M versions of the iAdaptAir, but not with the smallest version.
Controls & App
Controls on the Air Oasis iAdaptAir are fantastic. On the top of the device, is a touch panel that offers the majority of the options you need to run the air purifier. The buttons are responsive and there are often LED lights and a quick sound to provide feedback when interacting with the panel.
Here are the included buttons:
- Power
- Fan speed
- Child lock / sleep mode
- Timer
- Smart Mode
Most buttons have a single function.. However, some buttons have multiple functions with long and multi-presses activating different features.
Additionally, the display will notify you via an indicator light when the filter needs to be replaced.
While the device can be mostly controlled via the touch panel, there is app connectivity if you want wireless control, or more options.
Air Oasis uses the Air Oasis app to manage their air purifiers, and connecting to the device is a simple process.
- Download the app
- Set up an account
- Create a “place”
- Add a new device
From there, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. The app allows you to access all the same controls you would from the physical panel. Additionally, you can get access to purification reports, set up a custom schedule, and check on the current air quality in your home.
Maintenance
Maintenance for the Air Oasis iAdaptAir is simple. However, because of the various filters, there are a few more pieces that need to be replaced over time.
In general, you can extend the life of these parts by keeping the device clean, vacuuming dust from the dust guard and brushing off debris from the bi-polar ion brushes.
Periodically, the HEPA filter and UV Lamp will need to be replaced. The indicator light will notify you when it is time, as well as the app if you choose to connect to it.
Typically, HEPA filters need to be replaced every 6-18 months depending on environmental factors and use. Air Oasis recommends replacing the UV Lamp at least once a year.
Size & Dimensions
The Air Oasis iAdaptAir is a tall, but relatively skinny air purifier with a simple white look. Personally, I prefer a taller and more skinny air purifier as I feel like it doesn’t stand out as much as some other air purifiers we’ve tested.
Here are the exact dimensions of the iAdaptAir in each size:
Length | Width | Height | Weight | |
