Summary

The Airdog Pro is a simply designed air purifier with a coverage area of 570 sq. ft. It has an ionic filter plate that was able to improve the PM2.5 by 88.9% and remove 91.6% of all particles. In addition, the filter can be removed, washed in a dishwasher, and reused as needed. The Airdog Pro has an auto mode, sleep mode, and 4 other power modes to best clean the surrounding air. Additionally, it has app connectivity for controlling the device remotely.

Air Purification Test

To test the Airdog Pro, we set up the air purifier in a medium sized room in our office. I took a baseline measurement before starting the test to measure the current air quality. Then, I let the Airdog Pro run on the highest setting for 1 hour and then measured the air quality to get another set of measurements.

We can then compare the difference between the starting baseline and the post-run data to determine the performance of the Airdog Pro.

Starting Baseline

  • PM2.5: 5.4
  • PM10: 8.5
  • Particles: 1184
  • AQI: 22

After 1 Hour

  • PM2.5: 0.6
  • PM10: 1.0
  • Particles: 99
  • AQI: 2

Within the 1 hour test, the Airdog Pro removed 91.6% of air particulates from the medium-sized room we tested in (~14’x10’).

The Airdog improved PM2.5 air quality by 88.9%.

In order to get these measurements, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S+ professional air quality detector. This device allows us to get precise readings and performance bearings before and after the test.

Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality.

air quality index - PM 2.5 particulate matter index

The Airdog Pro had good purification performance. However, I would have liked to see the PM2.5 and PM10 reduced further. While 0.6 and 1.0 aren’t bad numbers, it isn’t quite as good as we have seen from other high end air purifiers.

The Filters

The Airdog Pro houses a 4-part filtration system to purify the surrounding air. The filters includes are:

  • Pre-filter
  • Electrode generator
  • Filter plate
  • Carbon filter

First, the pre-filter stops larger particles like hair or dust and is designed to be washable.

Next, the electrode generator uses electric power to kill bacteria as it enters the purifier.

After that, the filter plate acts as an ionic filter and charges harmful pollutants to get them to stick to the plate. They can later be washed off and removed completely.

Finally, the carbon filter is in place to help remove odors or unwanted smells.

While this type of filtration system is different from the more classic HEPA filter, it is still effective and has some added benefits. The majority of the filters are washable/cleanable and reusable. This reduces overall maintenance costs.

Noise Test

We also tested how loud the air purifier was while running. To perform this test we run the air purifier on the three different modes and use a sound meter to measure noise level. We tested the Airdog Pro from about 3’ away.

Our results showed the following decibel levels from each mode:

ModeNoise Generated
Sleep16.3 dB
L122.7 dB
L228.2 dB
L336.9 dB
L451.5 dB

While running on the max mode, the 51.5 dB of noise can be noticeable. That level of noise is similar to the hum of a refrigerator. While on the lowest option, the display will dim and the green light on the bottom of the device will turn off. The lowest mode is very quiet and shouldn’t be disruptive while you sleep.

Common noise levels:

  • 20 dB – rustling leaves
  • 30 dB – whisper
  • 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
  • 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
  • 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
  • 70 dB – traffic, showers
  • 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone

Usability Tests

Using the Airdog Pro is simple due to its design. There are few items in the box, which just makes setting up the device easier.

Here is what is included in the box:

  • Airdog Pro air purifier
  • Filter plate
  • Electrode plate (pre-installed)
  • Carbon filter (pre-installed)
  • Pre-filter (pre-installed)

Setup

Getting the Airdog Pro up and running is simple and requires a few minutes. Here are the steps:

  • Remove the device from the box
  • Remove excess packaging
  • Ensure all filters are installed correctly
  • Plug in, and turn on the unit

From there you can use the device as you see fit. If you need to move the Airdog Pro, the air purifier has two indents on the side to act as handles for easier moving.

Controls & App

Controlling the Airdog Pro from the device itself is simple. It will start up in auto mode, which will use the internal sensors to automatically adjust the suction. Auto mode is always a great addition to see, as it allows for more hands-off air purification.

If you do wish to select a specific power mode, you can do so by the press of a single button. Via this button, you can cycle through the power modes. The Airdog has 6 different modes to choose from:

  • Auto
  • Low
  • Middle
  • High
  • Turbo
  • Sleep

Additionally, the display will give basic information to the user like the air quality index level (AQI), when the filters need to be cleaned, and if there are any errors.

You can also control the Airdog Pro via an app remotely. Once you download the Airdog app, you can follow the on-screen prompts to connect the air purifier. The app will allow you to:

  • Turn on/off the Airdog
  • Change to different modes
  • Set a timer for the device to turn off
  • Create a basic schedule for when the device will be on/off

The app also allows you to connect the Airdog with Alexa or Google Assistant for controlling your device with your voice.

Maintenance

The Airdog Pro is one of the more maintenance friendly air purifiers we’ve tested. Each of the filters is designed to last the life of the air purifier with little maintenance. The pre-filter and filter plate are both washable, and the filter plate is dishwasher safe.

Additionally, the carbon filter is designed to be re-used. When the filter needs to be reset, you can set the carbon filter out in the sun and it will recover.

Overall, this level of maintenance is a great addition. It reduces overall costs, and is simple and infrequent enough to not be troublesome.

Size & Dimensions

The Airdog Pro is a medium sized air purifier with a simple design. It has a ridged design across the squarish body, and a simple white color. While it isn’t the most inconspicuous device, it won’t stand out either.

Here are the exact dimensions of the Airdog Pro:

  • Length – 12.8”
  • Width – 12.8”
  • Height – 26”
  • Weight – 24.9 lbs.

The Airdog Pro has a coverage area of 570 sq. ft. This level of coverage is great for most large bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and other similarly sized areas.

Should you buy the Airdog Pro?

I would recommend the Airdog Pro if you’re looking for the following features:

  • Washable filter: The washable filter improves overall usability, and reduces maintenance costs. The ionic filtration system is even able to be cleaned in a dishwasher, which makes maintaining the Airdog Pro a breeze.
  • Want an auto mode: The inclusion of an auto mode is something we don’t see with every air purifier. With the auto mode, you don’t have to worry about setting the device in the right power option for your room. The internal sensors in the Airdog will automatically detect and adjust the power as needed.
  • Good air purification performance: The Airdog Pro was able to improve the overall air quality by removing 91.6% of the air particles. It brought the PM2.5 from 5.4 to 0.6 and PM10 from 8.5 to 1.0. The Airdog Pro does a great job of improving the surrounding air.
