Vacuums can be expensive, there’s no doubt about it. However, there are ways around these steep price points. Several companies have produced more inexpensive vacuum cleaners that perform on a level similar to the higher priced units.

Although many of these “cheaper” vacuum cleaners do not come with a ton of bells and whistles, they are still able to get the job done more often than not.

Not every user wants to spend a large lump sum on a vacuum, which is why we’ve created a detailed guide highlighting some of the best cheap vacuum cleaners.

In order to provide a fair assessment of the best cheap vacuum cleaners, we tested a variety of styles, including robot vacuumsstick vacuumsupright vacuumshandheld vacuums, and canister vacuums.

Each category is unique in its own way, but the costs are low and the performance is still good enough to get the job done.

The iLife A4s is one of the best performers with regards to a cheap robot vacuum. Several cleaning modes and a strong cleaning performance combine with a lower price tag to round out one of the most consistently priced inexpensive vacuum cleaners.

iLife A4s robot vacuum

How It Cleans

The iLife A4s offers a few different cleaning styles. Each of these cleaning styles is completed through iLife’s three-step process, which includes sweeping, rolling, and sucking.

Each step of the cleaning process can be described as follows:

  • Sweeping is the time at which the iLife A4s robot vacuum uses its two side brushes to sweep debris in front of or underneath the vacuum.
  • Rolling is the process of the main brush literally rolling dirt / debris up into the suction slot.
  • Suction allows the unit to suck up this dirt / debris and store it in the dust bin.

Users have the ability to control the iLife robot vacuum with the included remote, or by pressing a button on the top of the unit.

The remote allows users to select a specific cleaning style, such as the following:

  • Edge cleaning
  • Spot cleaning
  • Mini-room cleaning
  • Scheduled cleaning
  • Automatic cleaning

As noted above, each of these cleaning styles utilizes the same three stage process, but there are benefits to using a more specific cleaning mode.

Accessories & Parts

The iLife A4s robot vacuum comes with:

  • Spinning brush x 2
  • Charging station
  • Battery
  • High-efficiency filter x 2
  • Cleaning tool
  • Remote and two AA batteries

While the iLife A4s does not have wifi connectivity, the remote included with the unit does give the user a bit of an edge when it comes to usability. The remote works just like an app does with wifi connectivity, therefore users are not losing out on a whole lot with the lack of wifi on this unit.

Maintenance

Annual costs to maintain the iLife A4s robot vacuum totals about $40 / year. iLife does have specific recommendations regarding time frames at which you should replace parts on the vacuum cleaner.

For $40 / year, users are getting two filters, one rolling brush, four side brushes, and even a new battery (every 18 months). As a robot vacuum, these costs are relatively inexpensive.

Value

All things considered, the iLife A4s robot vacuum offers a great value. The lower price point, extra features, and strong cleaning performance creates one of the best valued vacuum cleaners we have tested to date.

Pyle Pure Clean Robot Vacuum

  • Cleaning Performance: 80%
  • Maintenance: ~$22 / year
  • Dimensions: 11″ dia. x 2.9″
  • Power: Battery, 850 mAh
  • Run Time: ~90 minutes
  • Weight: 3.5 pounds
  • Dust Bin Capacity: 0.2 L
  • Read Review

The Pyle Pure Clean robot vacuum is an inexpensive unit designed to benefit users who have primarily hardwood, tile, or other hard surface floors. This robot vacuum is one of the cheapest we’ve seen available.

No special extra features are included with the Pure Clean, but this robot vacuum is able to get the job done most of the time (at least on hard surfaces).

1) on / off switch, 2) filter release, 3) bumper ring, and 4) charging port
1) on / off switch, 2) filter release, 3) bumper ring, and 4) charging port

How It Cleans

Compared to most other robot vacuums, the Pure Clean offers a different cleaning style. Instead of a rolling brush or spinning brushes, this Pyle robot cleans on straight suction. In other words, the unit drives around and sucks dirt / debris in its path.

By not having a rolling brush, the vacuum is not able to agitate dirt or debris. This fact, coupled with its size, means that the Pyle Pure Clean does not do well on carpeted surfaces. That said, these facts are what help to keep the costs lower.

Although the suction power of the Pure Clean is decent, the size of the suction slot is a touch small. If you’re wanting a robot vacuum that can handle larger debris fields, this may not be the most appropriate choice for you.

Accessories & Parts

The Pyle Pure Clean robot vacuum comes with:

Maintenance

Unfortunately, information about maintaining the Pyle Pure Clean is not the most straightforward answers we’d hoped for. There is no place to search for and purchase the replacement items you need to maintain the unit.

Instead, you have to go through the process of visiting the manufacturers website, searching through the FAQ’s, finding your exact model, creating a customer service ticket, and using customer service to order your parts.

This definitely left us annoyed.

Value

When looking at a cheap robot vacuum, the Pure Clean is a good choice, but not the right one for everyone. If you expect it to clean well on carpet, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you’re looking for a hard surface sweeper the Pyle can be a solid choice.

Users who need a small, easy to maintain, robot vacuum that can handle most small to medium sized messes on hard floor surfaces could find this Pyle vacuum cleaner to be a good fit. If you’re in the market for a slightly more advanced unit, you may want to explore our list of the best cheap robot vacuums.

Electrolux Ergorapido Stick Vacuum

  • Cleaning Performance: 91%
  • Maintenance: ~$20 / year
  • Dimensions: 5″ x 10.8″ x 42.5″
  • Power: Battery, 10.8V
  • Run Time: ~21 minutes
  • Weight: 5.5 pounds
  • Dust Bin Capacity: 0.4 L

The Electrolux Ergorapido is one of the most impressive units we have tested to date. Only making the vacuum more impressive is the low price at which it’s sold.

A 2-in-1 design allows this vacuum cleaner to serve as both a handheld and a stick. Therefore, it is as if you are getting two for the price of one.

electrolux ergorapido ion 2-in-1
The Electrolux ErgoRapido Ion is a 2-in-1 and operates as an upright vacuum or handheld vacuum.

How It Cleans

The Ergorapido is powered by a lithium ion battery and contains a motorized brushroll. Once charged, the battery powers the motor and allows the brushroll to spin, agitating and lifting the dirt and debris off of your floors.

Users also have the option to remove the handheld vacuum from the stick portion of the unit, giving them more maneuverability for specific cleaning styles.

Additionally, the handheld vacuum located on this unit includes a crevice tool and dusting brush, therefore you are able to get into those hard-to-reach places much easier than if you tried using the stick vacuum.

Accessories & Parts: The Electrolux Ergorapido stick vacuum comes with:

  • HEPA filter
  • Charging cable
  • Dusting brush
  • Crevice tool

CLEANING:  Click here to check out the cleaning performance of the Electrolux Ergorapido.

Maintenance

Maintaining the Electrolux Ergorapido is simple and straightforward. All you really need to do to maintain the filter is keep the filter clean, empty the dustbin, and make sure the roller brush isn’t obstructed.

Beyond that, simply replace the filter 2-4 times a year (depending on how often you use the vacuum). The filters are around $10 each.

Value

The overall value of the Ergorapido is nothing shy of impressive, in my opinion. This unit does a great job of cleaning through both the stick and handheld and is easy to maintain.

Users who are in need of a strong performer with high maneuverability and the ability to clean on and above floors might find the Electrolux Ergorapido to be a good fit.

Eufy RoboVac 11 Robot Vacuum

  • Cleaning Performance: 91%
  • Maintenance: ~$22 / year
  • Dimensions: 13″ dia. x 3.1″
  • Battery: Battery, 2,600 mAh
  • Weight: 6.7 pounds
  • Dust Bin Capacity: 0.6 L
  • Read Review

The Eufy RoboVac 11 has a remote control, a charging base, and basic navigation. The Eufy will begin cleaning your home at the touch of button and won’t stop until you tell it to.

1) on / off button, 2) bumper, and 3) dustbin release (on side)
1) on / off button, 2) bumper, and 3) dustbin release (on side)

How It Cleans

The Eufy RoboVac 11 has a centrally located bristle brushroll and two spinning side brushes that collect dirt, dust, and debris as it navigates your spaces.

The Eufy RoboVac 11 has six available cleaning modes:

  • Auto cleaning: Just like it sounds, auto cleaning mode allows the Eufy to scour the space, cleaning in whatever mode it deems necessary for each area.
  • Spot cleaning: In this mode, the Eufy will clean in a spiral pattern, which gets increasingly larger until the spot is clean.
  • Single room cleaning: When cleaning a single room, simply place the RoboVac in a room and close the door. It will clean the room and then turn off after the task is done.
  • Edge cleaning: Edge cleaning involves the Eufy navigating the edges only, skipping the center of the room entirely.
  • Manual cleaning: For a powerful manual clean, you can use directional buttons on the remote control to dictate the navigation— choosing from front to back, or side to side.
  • Max cleaning: While this seems like more of a power mode instead of a separate cleaning style, the Eufy RoboVac does offer a “max” mode that cleans at a higher suction power, which can be used for vacuuming carpeted floors.

For comparison’s sake, most other robot vacuum models clean until the job is done and then automatically return to the charging station.

The Eufy requires a bit more “babysitting” since it simply turns off when the job is done. You’ll have to manually place the vacuum on the charging station.

  • Four spinning brushes
  • Two HEPA filters
  • Remote
  • Charging base and cord
  • Cleaning tool

CLEANING:  Click here to check out the cleaning performance of the Eufy RoboVac 11.

Maintenance

With proper care, the Eufy should cost around $22 / year to maintain. This includes a couple of filters, two spinning brushes, and one brushroll.

Value

The RoboVac 11 is a great value in my opinion. The maintenance costs are low, cleaning performance is good, and it has a long run time.

It’s a bit annoying that it doesn’t return to the charging station once it completes a cleaning, but again, for the low price, this may be a feature you can live without.

Shark Navigator Pro Upright Vacuum

  • Cleaning Performance: 93%
  • Maintenance: ~$25 / year

The Shark Navigator Pro is an upright vacuum with a solid level of cleaning performance and the ability to become a lift away unit, where users can remove the canister for a lighter unit.

This upright vacuum’s versatility is one of the most impressive we have tested to date, so it was a must include product for this best cheap vacuums guide.

Shark Navigator Pro upright vacuum
Shark Navigator Pro upright vacuum

How It Cleans: The Shark Navigator Pro cleans in many ways, but the primary cleaning method is through the suction and motorized brushroll located under the head of the unit. Initially, the brushroll will not spin.

Some users may find it inconvenient or unnecessary for certain cleaning styles, therefore it is simply an option offered by a button located on the unit. As the “lift-away” version of the Navigator Pro, users have the option of removing the canister from the main portion of the unit and carrying it around for more specific cleaning sessions.

For example, when vacuuming the stairs you have the option of taking the canister off, which brings the unit down to 8 pounds instead of 13 pounds. In addition, there is a hose attached to Navigator Pro, which can stretch to almost 3′ long.

This just adds to the maneuverability offered by this Shark upright vacuum. All in all, there is no shortage of cleaning options / modes available with the Shark Navigator Pro vacuum.

The Shark Navigator Pro vacuum comes with:

  • Crevice tool
  • Dusting brush
  • Dust-away Genie pad
  • Accessory holder clip

Maintenance

Maintenance costs for the Navigator Pro average around $25 / year. That said, Shark does make more aggressive replacement recommendations. If you were to follow the company’s recommendations, you’d be spending closer to $60 a year to maintain this vacuum cleaner. These costs all depend on how often you use the unit, so this is a decision you have to make as you continue to use the Navigator Pro.

Value

The Shark Navigator Pro offers an above average value. Cleaning performance on hardwood floors and low pile carpets were excellent, but the struggle came during our high pile carpet tests. Nevertheless, considering the price, this is still a very solid vacuum cleaner.

Hoover Windtunnel T-Series Upright Vacuum

  • Cleaning Performance: 84%
  • Maintenance: ~$23 / year
  • Dimensions: 16″ x 12″ x 44″
  • Power: Cord, 25′ long
  • Weight: 16.5 pounds
  • Dust Bin Capacity: 3.0 L
  • Read Review

The Hoover Windtunnel T-Series vacuum is a good option for users who need a powerful unit for carpeted surfaces. As a lower cost option, this Hoover upright vacuum struggled a bit on hardwood floors, but dominated carpets.

A few extra features and a clean aesthetic make this vacuum cleaner a nice inexpensive option for a good number of users.

Hoover Windtunnel vacuum cleaner

How It Cleans

The Hoover Windtunnel vacuum offers five different floor height settings. Each of these settings is designed to provide a more specific clean for varying floor types.

For example, users have the option of turning the cleaning knob to a high pile carpet setting, which drops the head of the vacuum and increases the suction power.

This allows the Windtunnel to dig deeper into the carpet and lift up the dirt and debris.

Inside / underneath the head of the Hoover Windtunnel T-Series is a motorized brushroll. This brushroll is designed to agitate the dirt and debris off of your floors, followed by being sucked up through the suction slot directly behind the brush.

Each of the floor settings spins the brush at the same speed, creating a consistent level of suction across all floor types.

Users also have the option to use the hose attached to the vacuum to perform a more specific cleaning session. A crevice tool or dusting brush can be applied to the hose, but doesn’t have to be, giving users the ability to clean above ground as well as in corners and crevices.

  • Crevice tool
  • Dusting brush
  • Accessories clip
  • Motorized brushroll tool

CLEANING: Click here to check out the cleaning performance of the Hoover Windtunnel vacuum.

Maintenance

Three main parts make up the maintenance of the Hoover Windtunnel T-Series:

  • Stretch belt – The stretch belt is the belt located at the base of the vacuum cleaner. This belt provides rotation to the brushroll and will eventually wear down. Hoover recommends changing this belt every 12 months, or as needed.
  • HEPA filter – The HEPA filter should be changed every 6 months, or as often as needed. If you have severe allergies, more frequent replacement may be necessary.
  • Primary filter – The primary filter should also be replaced every 6 months.
  • Annual costs to maintain this Hoover vacuum fall around $23.

Value

Considering the price of this vacuum, I did not expect a perfect performance during our cleaning tests. However, I would have liked to see a more consistent clean across the hardwood floors. That said, the Windtunnel offers a pretty good value.

It has above average carpet cleaning performance and, below average hardwood cleaning performance, but an excellent price point.

As a powerful handheld, the Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip is a great option for the user who needs a handheld vacuum cleaner, but wants to avoid a high price tag.

The louder emission of sound is a bit of a nuisance, but for the price you pay this handheld is a must see cheap vacuum.

Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip small handheld vacuum review
Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip

How It Cleans

The Scorpion Quick Flip cleans through a couple of different processes. The suction power through each process is the same, but the variety of tools included with the unit makes a difference in how you use the Quick Flip.

A 7 amp motor powers this Dirt Devil handheld vacuum. Once powered up, the vacuum sucks through the suction slot, or one of the cleaning tools.

Users have the option of flipping out the crevice tool, also known as the Quick Flip tool, which helps to dig into those tighter corners and crevices.

Additionally, a 2.5′ hose can be inserted into the suction slot, giving users a longer reach with the same degree of suction. Last but not least, a dusting brush can be attached to the vacuum, allowing you to both dust and agitate dirt before sucking it up.

Accessories

The Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip includes the following accessories:

  • Hose
  • Dusting brush
  • Shoulder strap
  • Built in QuickFlip (crevice) tool

CLEANING:  Click here to check out the cleaning performance of the Dirt Devil Scorpion QuickFlip handheld vacuum.

Maintenance

Maintaining the Dirt Devil Scorpion Quick Flip is simple. Empty the dust bin and replace the filter every 3-6 months. Costs average around $10.50 annually, which is also among the cheapest annual maintenance costs we have seen to date.

Value

Overall, the Scorpion Quick Flip offers one of the best values in the industry.

Considering it’s low price, the cleaning performance is extremely impressive. There have been a few other handheld vacuums that perform on a level similar to this, but the price point of this vacuum is hard to beat.

The Scorpion Quick Flip could be a great fit for a vast majority of users looking for a cheap handheld vacuum cleaner.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is right up there with the Dirt Devil Scorpion QuickFlip; impressive performance meets an affordable price point.

Although another small unit, this Bissell handheld vacuum does extremely well with pet hair in addition to several other debris types.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser handheld vacuum

How It Cleans

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser cleans through direct suction, but also uses the agitation process when the rubber head is placed on the nozzle.

Two nozzles are available with this Bissell vacuum:

  • Rubber (pet hair) nozzle – The rubber nozzle works to agitate and lift pet hair, dirt, and other debris. As it does so, the suction moves the debris into the dust bin. Therefore, it works as one continuous cleaning method instead of having to agitate then go back over the mess.
  • Hard plastic nozzle – The plastic nozzle works by using direct suction. Simply move the nozzle over the dirt / debris you’re trying to clean and it will suck it up.

Accessories

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser includes a rubber nozzle and plastic nozzle. No extra accessories are included.

Maintenance

As a corded unit with just one filter, the maintenance tasks required by this vacuum are extremely easy to handle. Bissell recommends replacing the filter once a year, or as needed. The only other task to complete is emptying the dust bin.

Costs to maintain this handheld vacuum are about $11 a year.

Value

Once again, the value of this Bissell handheld vacuum is among the best we have seen yet. The extremely low price tag and solid cleaning performance combines for an impressive unit all around.

Comparatively speaking, there are fewer tools than a majority of the cheap vacuums we have tested to date. However, this vacuum is all about pet hair annihilation, so you really don’t need that many extra tools or accessories to get the job done.

The Eureka Mighty Mite is a low cost canister vacuum designed with great maneuverability and powerful suction. This combination was certainly worthy of landing a spot in this guide of the best cheap vacuum.

Fully assembled Mighty Might canister vacuum
Fully assembled Mighty Might canister vacuum

How It Cleans

The Eureka Mighty Mite canister vacuum cleans through direct suction applied to dirt / debris. A powerful 12 amp motor and 20′ cord powers the unit.

The floor cleaning tool is designed to roll back and forth over a debris field and suck it up. Yet, there are times where you need to lift up the head of the vacuum and place the suction directly on top of the debris in order to avoid pushing it around.

Suction of this unit can also be adjusted by using a slip ring that sits at the top of the hose next to the handle. Users have the option of adjusting the suction here, in addition to changing the floor surface type by pushing down the button on the head of the multi-surface tool.

The extra cleaning tools can also be added to the hose and extendable wand once the multi-surface cleaning head is removed. This adds to the versatility this Eureka canister vacuum has around your home.

Accessories

The Mighty Mite includes the following parts and accessories:

  • Dust bag x 2
  • Floor head cleaning tool
  • Combo dusting brush / agitation tool
  • Hose
  • Extendable wand

CLEANING:  Click here to check out the cleaning performance of the Eureka Mighty Mite vacuum.

Maintenance

The Eureka Mighty Mite has a few different areas to pay attention to with regard to maintenance:

  1. Dust bag – The dust bag should be emptied every 1-3 cleaning sessions, or as it fills up, and replaced every 1-2 months.
  2. Pre-motor filter – This filter needs to be replaced every 3-4 months.
  3. HEPA filter (if applicable) – Not every Mighty Mite vacuum has a HEPA filter, but if it does, it needs to be replaced every 6 months.

Depending on replacement time frames and the HEPA filter, annual maintenance costs can range from $36 to $55.

Value: All things considered, the Eureka Mighty Mite offers a solid value. Good maneuverability, strong suction, versatile cleaning tools, and a low price tag all come together to create a well-rounded unit all in all.

Last but not least, the Bissell Hard Floor Expert canister vacuum. Here is another canister vacuum that sells for less than $200 and does an excellent job of handling all sorts of debris types both on and above ground.

Bissell Hard Floor Expert best canister vacuum
Bissell Hard Floor Expert

How It Cleans

The Bissell Hard Floor Expert cleans through a two-stage filtration system powered by a 9.2 amp motor and an 18′ cord. During the suction process the Hard Floor Expert determines what kind of debris it’s picking up and filters it to store it as needed. By using this method, the vacuum is able to store dirt and debris more efficiently.

One note about this Bissell canister vacuum is its hard floor tool. This tool does have a degree of suction, but it acts much more like a polishing brush than it does a vacuum cleaner.

During our tests we found that the hard floor tool spent more time flinging debris around instead of picking it up.

On the other hand, the multi-surface tool does a fine job of handling most debris types on all indoor floors (both carpet and hardwoods). There are scenarios where the suction must be placed directly on top of the debris field, but this is not the case for every cleaning session.

Accessories: The Bissell Hard Floor Expert included the following parts and accessories:

  • Hose
  • Extendable wand
  • Multi-surface tool
  • Hard floor tool
  • Crevice tool
  • Dusting brush
  • Accessory clip

CLEANING:  Click here to check out the cleaning performance of the Bissell Hard Floor Expert canister vacuum.

Maintenance: The Hard Floor Expert is one of the more expensive units on this list to maintain. On the low end, users can expect to spend around $60 and this could reach all the way up to $130ish, depending on how often replacement parts are needed.

The only replacement parts needed are the dust cup filter and the post-motor filter, but it is recommended that they are changed every 3-6 months, depending on how often the vacuum is used.

Value: Although the maintenance is a bit higher than I would like to see, this Bissell vacuum cleaner offers a good value. The cleaning performance with the multi-surface tool is till top notch and well worth the price this unit is sold at.

If you like the idea of a canister vacuum that offers a multitude of cleaning tools, powerful suction, and a reasonable price, the Bissell Hard Floor Expert is well worth taking a look at.
