Powerful suction for cleaning pet hair, a large dust bin, and multiple accessories included.
Takes a while to fully charge and suction fades as battery diminishes, as well as some cleaning performance issues.
This vacuum is very portable and is easy to maneuver, but struggles a bit with large debris (like cereal) or ultra-fine debris (like sugar.)
Great at cleaning pet hair and comes with extra accessories for more versatile use.
Replacement parts are a bit costly, and it’s a little difficult to get into tight spaces with the powered brushroll.
This vacuum is fairly priced and does work well for pet hair or small messes, but the replacement battery is nearly the cost of a brand new vacuum.
Has great cleaning performance, and trigger cleaning action feels great.
More expensive than comparable models, limited accessories, and short run time when in “MAX” power mode.
The cost is higher than comparable models, but the overall cleaning performance is very impressive; the vacuum also has low maintenance costs.
Lightweight design, powerful suction, and a large dust bin capacity for extended cleaning.
Limited accessories, difficult to find replacement parts, and relatively short run time of ~15 minutes.
This handheld is not terrible expensive with good cleaning performance. But it was difficult to find replacements parts and it has a shorter run time.
Handheld vacuum cleaners are great options for people looking for a secondary vacuum for small messes or one that could easily travel with them. Compared to stick or upright vacuums, handheld vacuums are typically significantly lighter, quieter, and smaller in size.
Cordless handheld vacuums are even more convenient, since they lack the hassle of trying to find a power outlet. Cordless handheld vacuums come with a plug-in charger or charging station. Additional accessories may vary, depending on the exact make and model you decide on.
Cordless handhelds are especially useful for:
- Car interiors
- Quick messes

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless
The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless handheld vacuum is a lightweight model that offers powerful suction for pet hair and other debris. It’s easy to use and easy to maintain. As for disadvantages, it does take a while to generate a full charge and during our cleaning tests we noticed fading suction the longer the vacuum ran.
Design: This cordless handheld has a simple two-part assembly that clicks apart with a touch of a button. It is 16″ tong, 6.8″ tall, and 4.5″ wide. In-hand, this vacuum weighs three pounds.
Accessories & Parts: The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless handheld vacuum comes with:
- Crevice tool
- Upholstery tool
- Plug-in charger
- Motorized brushroll / Pet hair tool
This handheld comes with a nice selection of accessories for cleaning a variety of surfaces. Additional accessories are certainly not something that is found with every model.
Usability: The usability of this handheld was impressive, and the overall design was easy to understand and operate. Color-coded accents help to note special features about the vacuum as well, like the lime green filter cup or soft gray power buttons.
Value: Overall, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless is a solid value. The price point is reasonable, and cleaning performance was good. The most obvious set back, regarding cleaning, was performance with large debris (like cereal) or fine debris (like sugar).
On high-pile carpet, both of these results left at least 10% of the debris on the floor. But that being said, the accessories were a nice addition and 15-minute run time seemed pretty standard.

Shark Pet Perfect 2
The Shark Pet Perfect 2 cordless is another great option for a powerful and compact cordless handheld. It has powerful suction, an attachment for removing pet hair, and nice extra accessories. On the downside, the cost of a replacement battery is steep (cheaper to just replace the whole unit) and the body style did make hard-to-reach areas a bit more difficult during our cleaning tests.
Design: The design of this cordless Shark Pet Perfect 2 handheld is quite simple. It uses a black and purple aesthetic with intuitive features. The vacuum itself is 15.7″ long, 6.1″ high, and 4.6″ wide. In hand, this unit weighs 4.2 pounds.
Accessories & Parts: The Shark Pet Perfect 2 handheld vacuum comes with:
- Pet hair tool
- Dusting brush
- Crevice tool
- Charging base
This handheld vacuum certainly comes with a wide range of accessories and attachments. The narrower dusting brush and crevice tool are handy for hard-to-reach places, while the wide pet hair tool is better for upholstery or pet beds.
Usability: Concerning usability, the Shark Pet Perfect 2 hits the nail on the head. This unit has two buttons; the power button and the dust cup / filter release. Exchanging tools is also simple since they just slide in and out of the open end of the vacuum.
When it’s time to charge, there is an illuminating light that will turn on to indicate that it is charging. Once the battery is juiced up, the light will turn off, indicating that it’s ready to clean.
Value: The value for this cordless handheld is a little tricky to determine. Just considering price to performance, the value is excellent. This handheld is usually around $50 and did a great job during our cleaning tests. Shark also offers a 2 year warranty on this handheld.
But that being said, when it’s time to replace the battery, it’s going to cost you almost as much as replacing the entire vacuum, making it less expensive to just get a new Shark Pet Perfect 2.

Dyson V6 Trigger
The Dyson V6 Trigger cordless handheld is definitely the cream of the crop in terms of performance, but it comes with a price tag that is significantly higher than most of the handheld vacuums market.
One nice feature on the Dyson is the power switch, which is actually a “trigger” and only runs when you’re holding it down. This helps to prevent battery loss for times when the vacuum is on but not in use, like to move a piece of furniture.
As potential disadvantages, the price is high and it comes with limited accessories. For the higher cost, it would have been nice to see some unique attachments or custom cleaning heads.
Design: The design of the Dyson V6 Trigger cordless handheld is unique in its body style and power switch. The look features Dyson’s signature cyclones and royal purple accents. The red parts on this vacuum signal “action features”, like the red trigger or the sliding red lever that releases the dust bin.
Overall, this handheld vacuum is 16.3″ x 6.1″ x 10″
Accessories & Parts: The Dyson V6 Trigger handheld vacuum comes with:
- Crevice tool
- Plug-in charger
- Combination tool
Again, for the price it would have been nice to see some additional attachments with this model. Dyson designs many attachments for all types of environments that fit the V6, but they are marketed as separate vacuums. This list includes the:
- Dyson V6 Top Dog – Includes a crevice tool, mini-motorized tool, and stiff bristle brush.
- Dyson V6 Baby+Child – Includes a crevice tool, a stiff bristle brush, and a wide nozzle upholstery brush.
- Dyson V6 Mattress – Includes a crevice tool, soft dusting brush, mini-motorized tool, wide nozzle upholstery brush, and HEPA filtration.
- Dyson V6 Car+Boat – Includes a crevice tool, soft dusting brush, mini-motorized tool, still bristle brush, and extension hose.
Usability: The usability of the Dyson V6 Trigger is extremely easy. The trigger function helps to prevent wasted battery life and contributes to an overall intuitive design.
For example, the natural way you hold the vacuum puts your “trigger finger” at the exact location of the actual power trigger.
Value: Concerning value, I would say that the Dyson is a good value. Of course, this is assuming that you have a larger budget to spend on a cordless handheld vacuum.
The suction was exceptional, but as a cordless, you are limited by battery. That said, the V6 still has the longest battery life we’ve tested to date.

Black & Decker 16V
The Black & Decker 16V handheld vacuum offers an impressive amount of suction for such a lightweight vacuum. This model is portable and easy to carry, but has its limitations.
For instance, the wide nozzle makes it difficult to reach tight crevices and when charging. Also, we found the charging base to be a bit unstable.
The 16V cordless lacks many of the fancier bells and whistles, but is a nice low cost option for the budget-conscious shopper.
Design: The Black and Decker 16V design is simple and uses a white, gray, and light blue aesthetic. The gray accents help to call out the smaller features, like the power button, release switches, or attachment details.
The blue and white colors are used on the overall body and style of this handheld.
The Black and Decker 16V cordless is 17.2″ long, 5.5″ wide, and 7.8″ tall. In-hand, this vacuum weighs 2.6 pounds, one of the lightest models we’ve reviewed to date.
Accessories & Parts: The Black and Decker 16V handheld vacuum comes with:
- Attachment nozzle
- Vacuum body
- Charging station
Possibly one of the largest disadvantages is the number of attachments that come with this cordless handheld. The one nozzle that is included is long and has a narrow mouth at the end.
Its dimensions make it a little difficult to squeeze into tight spaces and may not be the right choice for all cleaning jobs.
Usability: Overall, the Black & Decker 16V cordless handheld is fairly usable. The unstable charging base is a little concerning, since charging the vacuum should be an extremely easy. Additionally, the lack of attachments could make it difficult to use this vacuum in some place.
In terms of buttons though, the user interface is quite simple. Click in the nozzle, turn it on, and get to work. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.
Value: Despite its setbacks, I would still say that overall the Black & Decker 16V is still a good value. The price point can vary, but generally floats around $45-60 and it offers a solid cleaning performance. It is extremely lightweight and the nozzle is capable of cleaning all debris types (that we tested in our complete vacuum review).
