Purification Performance

To test how well the IQAir PerfectPro purified air in a home, we decided to do a long purification test. Using a professional air quality detector, we took baseline measurements in multiple rooms in my home before installing the PerfectPro system.

After the measurements were taken, we installed the filter and let it purify the air in my home for one month. After one month, we took another set of measurements in the same locations to compare the results to.

Across the board, purification performance for the IQAir PerfectPro was fantastic. In every room the key air quality indicators were significantly improved. This is a lived in house, with people, animals, doors opening / closing, cooking, and much more. Due to this, I was impressed by the level of performance of the PerfectPro filters.

In most cases they were able to reduce PM2.5 and PM10 to below 1.0, with some rooms having a PM10 of 1.1. In all cases, air quality was notably improved in every room compared to the baseline.

Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality. The most important thing to know is: the lower the numbers, the better. 

Ozone Test

For our ozone test, we wanted to see if the filter created any ozone while purifying the air. In this case, we didn’t expect any ozone to be created, as there are no  electronics in the system that could generate ozone. 

After letting the filter purify the air in our home for one month, we took measurements using an electronic ozone meter. Our testing showed that no harmful levels of ozone were generated, as we expected.

Filter Design

PerfectPro filters are designed to be better than MERV 16 HVAC filters, according to IQAir. They’ve put their products through laboratory testing with Intertek/ETL SEMKO to prove it. It uses an Advanced Micro-Fiber Filtration technology that is thinner than those used in standard filters. 

This allows IQAir to create a HVAC filter that works well, but doesn’t take up as much space. Regardless of the model being installed, it’s designed to take up only a small amount of space and work with previously installed air conditioning in the home. 

Once installed, air is pulled into the HVAC via the air in-take, passed through the PerfectPro filtration system, and then dispersed throughout the air vents in your home. This way it cycles the air through your home, constantly purifying it.

PerfectPro Series

IQAir’s PerfectPro series is more than just HVAC filters. We tested their PerfectPro 2025 HVAC system. The 2025, in addition to the PerfectPro 2020, have less media (filter material used) coverage than the other purification solutions the PerfectPro X.

The PerfectPro X 5-ton and 3-ton are more robust additions to your home offering almost twice the media coverage compared to the 2020 or 2025. In addition, the X’s last longer with a 3-year average lifespan, but weigh more and are bigger than the other models.
