Summary

The Medify MA-125 is a simple and large air purifier with extra large coverage. It uses a HEPA filtration system and optional UV light filter to provide excellent purification performance. Our tests showed the MA-125 was able to remove 99.4% of particles and improve the PM2.5 by 99.3%. It has a simple touch display, with an integrated auto mode and custom timer. While the device is large, it is easy to move around thanks to wheels on the bottom.

Purification Test

To test the Medify MA-125, we set up the air purifier in a medium sized room in our office. I took a baseline measurement before starting the test to measure the current air quality. Then, I let the Medify MA-125 run on the highest setting for 1 hour and measured the air quality again.

We can then compare the difference between the starting baseline and the post-run data to determine the performance of the Medify MA-125

Starting Baseline

  • PM2.5: 15.3
  • PM10: 25.9
  • Particles: 2,079
  • AQI: 57

After 1 Hour

  • PM2.5: 0.1
  • PM10: 0.1
  • Particles: 12
  • AQI: 1

At the conclusion of our 1 hour test the Medify MA-125 removed 99.4% of air particulates from the medium-sized room we tested in (~14’x10’).

The Medify MA-125 improved PM2.5 air quality by 99.3%

In order to get these measurements, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S+ professional air quality detector. This device allows us to get precise air quality readings and before and after the test.

Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality.

Overall, I was impressed with the Medify MA-125. Our test showed excellent results with a PM2.5 of 0.1 and PM10 of 0.2

The Filters

Inside Medify MA-125 lies an H14 HEPA filter. While the HEPA filter does the majority of the work, there are other filters that are utilized as well.

Here are the filters included in the MA-125:

  • Pre-filter
  • HEPA filter
  • Activated carbon filter
  • UV light filter

The pre-filter captures larger airborne particles, allowing them to be wiped off or vacuumed away later.

The main filtration layer, the HEPA filter, can filter out particulates as small as 0.3 microns.

Next, the activated carbon filter is designed to remove odors and other VOCs.

Finally, turning on the UV light filter will power a UV light in the device for 30 minutes, which works to sterilize the incoming air. This function can be turned on/off from the touch panel.

Noise Test

We also tested how loud the air purifier was while running. To perform this test we have the air purifier run on the three different modes and use a sound meter to measure noise level. We tested the Medify MA-125 from about 3’ away.

Our results showed the following decibel levels from each mode.

Low

16.1 dB

Medium

32.9 dB

High

49.0 dB

In total, the MA-125 has 9 fan speeds, and you can expect the noise to vary from mode to mode. In our testing, we found the decibel range to be from 16-49 dB.

Common noise levels:

  • 20 dB – rustling leaves
  • 30 dB – whisper
  • 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
  • 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
  • 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
  • 70 dB – traffic, showers
  • 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone

Usability Test

Using the Medify MA-125 is straightforward and easy. Here is what comes with in the box:

  • MA-125 air purifier
  • 2x HEPA filter (inside device)
  • User manual

Setup

The MA-125 is essentially ready to run once it has been removed from the box. Simply remove the packaging from the filters, plug it in, then you’re ready to go.

Controls

On top of the device is a touch screen that can be used to control the MA-125. Unfortunately, this Medify air purifier does not come with a remote, nor can it be controlled via a smartphone. While having these features can be nice, it ultimately does not affect purification performance.

The controls blend into the top of the device, which offers a sleek look. Through the touch controls you can:

  • Turn on/off the device
  • Adjust fan speed
  • Turn on Auto Mode
  • Dim the device lights
  • Turn on the UV filter
  • Set a custom timer

One notable feature on the MA-125 is the ability to set a custom timer on the device itself.

Personally, I really like to see the inclusion of an auto mode. This mode uses the on-board sensors to automatically adjust the fan speed based on current air quality.

This allows you to turn on the air purifier and forget about it as it cleans the surrounding air. Additionally, the MA-125 will use this same information to display the current air quality via the display.

Maintenance

Medify recommends replacing the HEPA filter every 5-6 months, although the frequency can vary depending on use. Watch the filter indicator light on top of the unit to know when it’s time to replace the filter.

Here are the steps to replace the filter:

  1. Open the device cover on both sides
  2. Remove the filters via the tab
  3. Insert new filters
  4. Close cover and press the reset filter button

Size & Dimensions

The Medify MA-125 is a large air purifier. It has a simple design that can minimize its impact on home décor. Due to the larger design, Medify included wheels on the bottom to assist in moving the device.

Should you buy the Medify MA-125?

I would recommend the Medify MA-125 if you’re looking for the following features:

  • Extra-large coverage: The Medify MA-125 has 4,100 sq. ft. of coverage. This is large enough to cover open concept designs or even full homes. In addition, this can improve cleaning performance as well, as the air purifier is able to more efficiently clean smaller spaces.
  • Fantastic purification performance: Our testing series showed the Medify MA-125 has excellent performance. Within 1 hour it reduced airborne particles from 2,079 to 12, and improved the PM2.5 by 99.3%.
  • Want an auto mode: Auto mode allows you to turn on the air purifier and forget about it. The internal sensors will measure the surrounding air and use that information to adjust fan speed.
