OneLife X

The OneLife X is a medium-sized air purifier that is designed to clean the air in spaces up to 270 sq. ft. In our air purification tests, it removed 55.56% of air particulates, reaching a PM2.5 of 0.9, PM10 of 1.7, and an AQI of 4. During our ambient sound tests, it increased the decibel levels by 0.2 dB on the lowest setting and by 19.4 dB on the highest setting, showing it remains quiet while it works.Check Price

Pros

  • A filter that can be washed and never needs to be replaced
  • Modern and sleek design that doesn’t need to be hid in the home
  • An auto mode that will adjust the fan speeds as needed based off of the surrounding air quality

Cons

  • A pricey unit compared to other air purifiers on the market
  • Air purification performance is not quite as good as what we have seen in other models (with respect to PM2.5 and PM10 levels).

Summary

The OneLife X uses plasma technology to attract and capture airborne particulates, removing them from the air. It’s able to cover 270 square feet of space, creates no ozone, and the filters are washable (you can even use a dishwasher). Aesthetically, the purifier is gorgeous. It looks more like a fancy speaker than an air purifier. Performance was good, albeit not incredible. However, it’s hard to complain too much given the fantastic aesthetic and washable filter design.

Purification Performance

Overall, the OneLife X didn’t perform as well as some of the other air purifiers we have tested at this price point. However, it wasn’t necessarily a poor performer.

Testing Series

To test the OneLife X, we set up the air purifier in a medium sized room in our office. First, I took a baseline measurement before starting the test to measure the current air quality. Next, I let the OneLife X run for 1 hour and then measured the air quality to get another set of measurements.

We can then compare the difference between the starting baseline and the post-run data to determine the performance of the OneLife X.

What were the results?

Starting Baseline

  • PM2.5: 2.3
  • PM10: 3.8
  • Particles: 414
  • AQI: 9

After 1 Hour

  • PM2.5: 0.9
  • PM10: 1.7
  • Particles: 184
  • AQI: 4

Within the 1 hour test, the OneLife X removed 55.56% of air particulates from the medium-sized room we tested in (~14’x10’).

The OneLife X improved PM2.5 air quality by 60.86%.

In order to get these measurements, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S+ professional air quality detector. This device allows us to get precise readings and performance bearings before and after the test.

Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality.

How loud is it?

Because the OneLife X uses a plasma filter, it doesn’t increase the amount of ambient sound, depending on which setting you use.

Testing Series

To test the OneLife X, we set up the air purifier in a medium sized room in our office. I measured the ambient sound of the room using a decibel meter app, which I let run for 30 seconds. I used this to establish a baseline for the ambient sound.

Afterwards, I turned on the purifier to its lowest setting and measured the ambient sound in the room for the same length of time. Then again on the highest setting of the purifier.

What were the results?

Baseline ambient volume: 24.2

On the lowest setting the ambient volume only increased by 0.2 dB. On the highest setting the ambient volume increased by 19.4 dB.

OneLife X Design

The OneLife X has a modern, compact design that allows it to fit in many locations in your house. The renewable bamboo and recycled plastics give it a sleek aesthetic and the replaceable covers offer a way for you to decide what look works best for you.

The OneLife X has a rectangular design with rounded corners for the bamboo frame. The bamboo frame encases the white plastic purifier unit that can be rotated for whatever angle you prefer.

The power port is located on the rear of the purifier unit and the cord can be unplugged as needed.

The Filter

The OneLife X uses a removable plasma filter that ionizes particles as they float through the device. This allows the filter to capture the airborne particles and deposit them so they don’t continue to float around the room.

The filter is machine and hand-washable, so there is no need to replace the filter over time.

The Sensors

The Onelife X has 3 sensors it uses to detect real-time air quality information. The sensors are designed to detect air particles of PM10 (like pollen), PM2.5 (like dust), and PM 1.0 (like smoke) sizes, as well as humidity and temperature of the area.

The Controls

The controls are located on the front of the OneLife X, near the top of the purifier unit. The control panel has a singular button to rotate through the different modes, and LED lights to visualize which mode the device is currently set to, and if the filter needs some cleaning.

You can also control the device from the OneLife X app, which offers additional detailed information about the air quality in the current location.

The OneLife X is also compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

Is there a remote control?

The Onelife X does not come with a remote control, however, you can control the device once connected to the Onelife X mobile app.

The app is in early access currently and we were unable to get it connected ourselves.

OneLife says that with the app you will be able to control your device from anywhere, get a detailed report of the air quality around the device, and get information from the internet about the current air quality levels around the world.

How is it different?

The OneLife X uses a plasma filter that can filter out small particles in the air. The manufacturer said this about the OneLife X:

[it] is a high performance air purifier that uses a cutting edge plasma filter technology that is able to filter particulate matter down to .01 microns

Because of this design, the filter doesn’t need to be replaced, but rather periodically cleaned by washing with your hands, or in a dishwasher.

How does the filter work?

The Onelife X has a plasma filtration system that allows the device to filter out pollutants down to 0.01 micrometers.

As the air particles flow through the bottom of the device through the filter, a plasma field is created that ionizes the passing particles.

These ionized particles move to a counter electrode and as they move, these ionized particles charge pollutants to help magnetize the harmful particles to the counter electrodes. That way it doesn’t obstruct air-flow but still allows the OneLife X to filter the air in the room.

Does the OneLife X produce ozone?

Because this isn’t a HEPA filter, I was worried whether or not this would create ozone. Luckily, OneLife has this covered:

The OneLife X produces no ozone as a byproduct.

They state that the ions are generated in a multi-stage plasma field that allows the device to filter the air without creating a harmful ozone byproduct.

Size & Dimensions

The Onelife X is a medium-sized purifier that can fit in a wide variety of locations. It treats air up to 270 sq. ft.

Maintenance

The only maintenance required is to clean the filter as needed. This can be done by removing the filter from the device and cleaning it in a sink, or even in your dishwasher.

How often you need to clean the filter depends on the air quality of the location the OneLife X is in.

Is the OneLife X a good value?

It can be, but you really need to be looking for a low-profile modern looking air purifier that can fit in any home, and not be distracting with how quietly it runs.

Should you buy the OneLife X Air Purifier?

The OneLife X offers an interesting take on air purifiers. It has a modern design that looks almost like an interesting décor piece rather than a traditional air purifier.

It comes at a higher price and may not be a fit for everyone, however I would recommend the OneLife X if you are looking for an air purifier with the following features:

  • Washable Plasma Filter: an easy to remove filter that can be washed in the sink or dishwasher and never needs to be replaced.
  • Automatic and Manual controls: using the device’s sensors, the OneLife X can automatically determine the air quality surrounding it, and adjust in real time to match your needs
  • Low-profile and Modern Design: The OneLife X is quiet with only a 0.2 dB increase of ambient sound on the lowest setting. The bamboo frame and the interchangeable purifier covers allow the device to blend into any home.
