Performance Tests
At Modern Castle, we use 6 different tests to measure the cleaning performance and usability of stick vacuums.
These tests include:
- Cleaning test
- Hair test
- Pet hair test
- Runtime test
- Noise test
- Usability test
Cleaning Test
To test cleaning performance of the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum, we use 4 different debris types (sugar, kitty litter, rice, and cereal) on 3 different floor types (hardwood, low pile carpet, and high pile carpet).
We then use the vacuum on the max suction power and clean up the debris. After which, we check how much of the debris was removed by weight.
Overall
98.1%
Hardwood
96.0%
Low Carpet
99.0%
High Carpet
99.3%
Cleaning performance for the Samsung Bespoke Jet was excellent in all cases except one: cereal on hardwood flooring. In all other tests, it was able to remove the vast majority of debris, occasionally leaving minimal amounts behind.
Hardwood Floor Cleaning
The Bespoke handles most of the debris with ease, except in the case of cereal.
Sugar
100%
Kitty Litter
100%
Rice
99.0%
Cereal
85%
85% of the total cereal was removed, however, it was a difficult task for the Samsung Bespoke to complete. When pushing the vacuum over the cereal it would push the majority of it instead, only picking up a few pieces at a time.
In the end, the majority of that 85% that was removed was done so due to the cereal breaking into small pieces over time.
Low Pile Carpet Cleaning
Unlike the issues mentioned regarding hardwood flooring, the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum experienced virtually no issues on low pile carpet.
Sugar
98.0%
Kitty Litter
98.0%
Rice
100%
Cereal
100%
Minimal amounts of sugar and kitty litter remained, but the vacuum was able to get on top of the larger debris and completely remove it.
High Pile Carpet Cleaning
Just as with low pile carpet, performance on high pile carpet was excellent for the Bespoke.
Sugar
98.0%
Kitty Litter
99.0%
Rice
100%
Cereal
100%
Only the smallest debris types had some remain, whereas the majority of all debris was completely removed.
Long Hair Test
Our long hair tests checks how well a stick vacuum is able to clean long hair without it tangling around the brushroll. To test this, we place long strands of fake hair in the direct cleaning path of the Samsung Bespoke, run the vacuum over it, and check the floor and brushroll.
Removed?
100%
Tangled?
Moderate
All of the hair was removed from the floor, no problems there. However, a moderate amount of hair did tangle around the brushroll. Luckily, removing the hair was easy to do by hand, and it didn’t cause many issues.
However, if you commonly clean up long hair make sure to keep an eye on the brushroll to remove tangles.
Pet Hair Test
For the pet hair test, we nestle pet hair into high pile carpet. We then ran the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum on the max suction setting over the fur. After we checked to see how much of the pet hair was removed from the carpet.
Pet hair performance for the Bespoke is exceptional, with one caveat. You need to use the pet tool to achieve this performance. With the standard cleaning head the performance was good, but nothing amazing.
Removed?
99%
Cleaning Passes?
One
When we switched to the pet tool, the majority of the hair was removed with only a few strands remaining in the carpet.
Runtime Test
To test the runtime, we fully charge the battery, and let the vacuum run on each mode until the battery runs out of power. All of our runtime tests are based on a single battery. Here are the results from our test:
Low
56:03
Mid
29:33
Max
19:01
Jet
9:59
Runtime for the Samsung Bespoke Jet Vacuum is fairly standard compared to other stick vacuums we’ve tested.
However, Samsung included an additional battery with the Bespoke effectively doubling the runtime. If one runs out, you simply switch in the back-up and continue cleaning.
As an added bonus, the accessory cradle can not only charge a battery, but easily be carried around to have your tools and extra battery close at hand.
Noise Test
For our noise test of the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum, we ran it on each setting on high pile carpet. While running, we measured the level of noise generated with a noise meter from about 3’ away.
Suction | Noise Level |
---|---|
Quiet | 51.5 dB |
Middle | 55.8 dB |
Max | 58.9 dB |
Jet | 61.2 dB |
Self-empty | 53.3 dB |
Our testing showed the Bespoke Jet to have a noise range of 51-61 dB depending on the mode.
When self emptying it makes 53.3 dB of noise. Across this board this isn’t a quiet vacuum, but neither is any we’ve tested.
Common noise levels:
- 20 dB – rustling leaves
- 30 dB – whisper
- 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
- 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
- 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
- 70 dB – traffic, showers
- 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone
Usability
Overall usability for the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum is fantastic. Setup is quick and easy, the controls are intuitive, and maintenance is excellent thanks to the clean station. It is lightweight, easy to maneuver, and lays practically flat on the ground.
In addition, it comes with a wide range of accessories and tools that assist in cleaning.
Here is what comes in the box:
- Bespoke Jet vacuum
- Clean station
- Accessory cradle
- Jet dual brush
- Pet tool
- Flexible tool
- Combination tool
- Extension crevice tool
- Adjustable pipe
- Dust bag (1x installed, 2x spare)
- Battery (2x)
- Charger
- User manual
Setup
Setup is incredibly simple for the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum. There is a little more required thanks to the clean station, but it still only takes 5-10 minutes for a single person.
- Remove the packaging
- Plug in clean station
- Plug in charger to accessory cradle
From there Samsung recommends fully charging a battery before first use, which they estimate takes 3.5 hours. The battery can be charged while attached to the vacuum in the clean station or in the accessory cradle.
Before first cleaning, the vacuum will have you select a language to choose from. By following the on-display prompts this can be done in a few seconds.
Controls & Display
Controlling the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum is straightforward thanks to a 3 button design and display. The center button powers the vacuum on/off, while the plus and minus shaped buttons increase/decrease the suction power.
The display is simple and will convey information about the Bespoke, including:
- Remaining battery life
- Current suction power
- Maintenance tasks
The final button that is on the clean station rather than the vacuum, starts / stops a self-empty cycle.
Maintenance
Overall maintenance for the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum is excellent. This is largely due to the clean station. It takes care of one of the most frequent maintenance tasks: emptying the dustbin.
Instead, when the vacuum is placed on the dock and the self-empty button is pressed, the station will empty out the dustbin into an internal dust bag.
However, there was one issue we experienced with this feature. After self-emptying, the dustbin would remain open, requiring the user to close it after. It isn’t a huge issue, but it caught us off guard the first time as we turned on the vacuum with the dustbin open.
Other tasks like washing the filters on the station and vacuum or replacing the dust bag on the clean station will need to be done by hand and less frequently.
The two filters on the vacuum can be washed, while the ones on the base can be emptied out in the trash.
Accessories
Included with the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum are a variety of tools and accessories that assist in cleaning. It has a standard combination tool, and a crevice tool that can extend further if needed.
In addition, it comes with an adjustable height for increased/decreased length. The most notable accessories include:
- Jet dual brush
- Pet tool
- Flexible tool
The Jet dual brush is the standard cleaning head that can be used on all surfaces. It uses a single brushroll and mini-soft brushroll on front to tackle most messes.
Unlike the Jet dual brush, the Pet tool is designed to tackle specific messes. Its smaller design and rubber brushroll are designed to handle pet hair with ease and reduce tangling.
Finally, the Flexible tool enhances other cleaning accessories by adding additional angles to tackle messes.
If you are looking to add even more accessories to enhance your cleaning, the Wet brush adds mopping functionality and the slim action brush is a lightweight more maneuverable cleaning head.
Size & Dimensions
The Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum is similar in size and weight to other stick vacuums we’ve tested, and just as maneuverable. It can lay close to the ground, take tight corners, and can be used handheld.
Here are the dimensions of the Bespoke Jet:
- Width – 8.5″
- Length – 39.4”
- Height – 8.3”
- Weight – 5.7 lbs
