Performance Tests

We were able to perform 4 different performance tests on the Samsung Jet 90, Dyson V11, and Dyson V10 these included:

  • Cleaning Test
  • Run Time Test
  • Noise Test
  • Usability Test

While we did not test the Jet 75 it is effectively identical to the Jet 90. They are both identical in terms of:

  • 60 minute run time
  • 200 AW of suction
  • 0.8L dust bin capacity
  • HEPA filtration system

The main difference between the two models are the included attachments and base.

Additionally, we were able to perform an additional 2 tests on the Dyson V11 and V10. These include:

  • Long hair test
  • Pet fur test

Cleaning Test

Our tests are designed to measure the full range of the vacuums’ cleaning performance. We perform a 12 debris tests, with 3 different floor types and 4 different debris types.

The following scores are a reflection of the total percentage of debris removed during our tests by weight.

The Jet 90 performed excellent during our testing. It successfully removed 97-100% of all debris types.

When we started the tests on hardwood floors, the Jet 90 clogged while removing the cereal. However, we then changed the suction mode to max, and the issue was resolved.

Beyond that, the only other notable point of struggle was on low pile carpet. The Jet 90 only removed 88% of the sugar. This is a common issue among stick vacuums, but it is something to keep in mind.

Overall, the Samsung Jet 90 performed well. It cleans well in most situations, and when more suction was needed it was able to provide it.

The V11 didn’t struggle with any clogging issues, and the Torque Drive nozzle handled all floor types well. Some versions of the V11 also include a soft brush that is designed for hardwood floors, but we performed our tests with the Torque Drive with no problems.

The Dyson V10 did an excellent job during our cleaning tests. It had a cleaning range of 99-100% across all three floor types.

Dyson V10 hardwood floor cleaning tests

When shooting our review video, we noticed that when quickly vacuuming cereal on hardwood floor, it would occasionally clog. We were not able to replicate this consistently but we recommend taking your time cleaning up larger debris with the V10.

Dyson V10 high carpet cleaning test

Otherwise, the V10 performed nearly perfectly and was able to successfully remove the vast majority of debris.

Run Time Test

The run time for each vacuum can vary depending on the suction mode. All of the vacuums have 3 power modes. Samsung calls their modes low, medium, and max. While Dyson calls it eco, auto, and boost.

Suction ModeJet 90 / 75 run timeV11 run timeV10 run time

Max. Run Time:*60 mins.60 mins.60 mins

*This max. time is the number listed by the manufacturer.

All of these tests were run with one battery and the standard nozzle attachment. Because the Jet 90 and Jet 75 are functionally identical, we expect the same run times from the Jet 75.

Samsung Jet 90 Battery
Samsung Jet 90 Battery

All that being said, the Dyson V11 showed the longest run time of the vacuums. The Dyson V11 has run time range of 7-85 minutes. This makes it a great choice for long cleaning sessions.

However, if you make sure to charge the vacuum between use, each of these vacuums would have enough power to finish the job.

Noise Test

We also test how loud the different vacuums are while running. We use a noise meter from about 3′ feet away to measure the generated noise.

Suction ModeJet 90 / 75V11V10
Low69 dB70 dB75 dB
Normal72 dB75 dB77 dB
Max74 dB78 dB80 dB

While this is a minor thing overall, loud noises can be disruptive to conversations or other activities around the house. The Samsung Jet 90 was the quietest vacuum of the group overall with a range of 69-74 dB. We would expect similar levels from the Jet 75.

For reference, the Jet 90 would generate noise similar to a dishwasher or a shower.

On the other hand The Dyson vacuums were slightly louder, but not by much. Generally, I would expect similar levels of noise generated by the different vacuums.

Common noise levels:

  • 20 dB – rustling leaves
  • 30 dB – whisper
  • 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
  • 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
  • 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
  • 70 dB – traffic, showers
  • 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone

Usability Test

Usability between the different vacuums was similar. They are lightweight and designed to be maneuverable and adjustable. Setting up each of these vacuums was simple, which required charging the battery and attaching the required cleaning tools.

All vacuums can be put in handheld mode and are compatible with all included accessories. Whether in stick mode or handheld mode, all the vacuums we tested were easy to manage and handle. They are equipped to make tight turns and lie close to the ground to reach under low furniture.

While they are similar in function, the different vacuums have some key differences that affect usability.

Samsung Jet 90 Usability

Here are some notable features of the Jet 90:

  • Telescoping Wand
  • Free-standing base
  • Accessories

The Jet 90 has a telescoping wand that can be adjusted to fix the length of the job. This is a great addition as it helps you get the exact length you need to reach a tight spot.

Additionally, the Jet 90 is the only vacuum that includes a free-standing charging base. It offers the ability to adjust the charging location of the vacuum on the fly. The base also stores accessories and charge an additional battery simultaneously.

Some of the unique accessories to the Jet 90 are the Flexible tool, which adds some extra maneuverability, and the soft brush tool which is great for hardwood floor.

Samsung Jet 75 Usability

In all other features the Jet 75 is similar to the Jet 90, however, it does not include the telescoping wand or free-standing base. Instead, it has the standard extension wand and a wall mount to charge the vacuum. The wall mount can still store accessories, but only charges one battery at a time.

The Jet 75 also includes the Flexible tool and soft brush tool showcasing the accessories Samsun chose to include with their vacuums.

Dyson V11 Usability

The Dyson vacuums also have their set of unique features that benefit their overall usability. The Dyson V11 includes these unique features:

  • Dust bin
  • Automatic suction adjustment
  • Accessories

Emptying the 4 different vacuums is simple, however, we found the Dyson “point-and-shoot” style to be a little more intuitive. It makes emptying the dust bin a simple and quick process, that way you can continue vacuuming sooner.

Dyson V11 cleaning mode selection

The V11 also includes floor sensor technology that automatically adjusts the suction of the vacuum depending on the floor type. This allows you to clean without worrying about power modes.

The vacuum also comes with a stubborn dirt brush which is great for cleaning dirt off of hard surfaces. Additionally, Dyson included the soft dusting brush which is a good attachment for handling furniture.

Dyson V10 Usability

The Dyson V10 is the older Dyson model and still includes a lot of the features the V11 has. It has the same “point-and-shoot” style of dust bin, and includes a lot of the same accessories except the stubborn dirt brush.

The Dyson V10 posses a point and shoot dust bin release mechanism

Additionally, the V10 does not include the automatic suction adjustment, but it does includes the soft dusting brush.

Long Hair Test

Both the Dyson V11 and V10 managed long hair well during our tests. For each test we used the vacuum on the highest suction setting with the High Torque head.

While the amount of long hair was minimal, it is important to note if you are often cleaning up long strands of hair. While there wasn’t a huge difference between the two, I did notice the V10 had less strands tangled in the brushroll than the V11.

Pet Hair Test

To test the vacuums ability to manage pet fur, we lay pet fur out on high pile carpet and run the vacuum over it, checking to see how much it picks up or if it gets tangled.

With this test we used the highest suction mode available and the standard cleaning nozzle. In Dyson’s case this is the High Torque head.

Design

All 4 vacuums have similar features between their design. They all have:

  • Multi-floor cleaning head
  • Click-in cleaning tools
  • Extension Wand
  • In-hand dust bin
  • 3 suction levels
  • Washable filter
  • Great cleaning performance

However, Samsung’s Jet series does differ from Dyson’s V vacuums in various ways.

Here are the key differences between the models:

  1. Telescoping Wand
  2. Dust bin
  3. Controls
  4. Display

#1. Telescoping Wand

The Samsung Jet 90 includes a telescoping wand that is a great tool to vary the length. The Jet 75, V11, and V10 have a standard extension wand, but the Jet 90 is the only vacuum in this comparison with the variable length.

#2. Dust bin

While the overall size and shape of the dust bin is generally the same, the Dyson vacuums include a unique way to empty the dust bin. Both the Dyson V11 and V10 include the “point-and-shoot” style dust bin, which is easy to empty.

Dyson V11 - emptying the dust bin

In comparison, emptying the Samsung dust bins takes a little more time and involves more steps that I would like to see.

#3. Controls

What type of controls you prefer is a matter of preference. Dyson uses a trigger style on and off switch. To start cleaning with the V11 or V10 you simply squeeze the trigger turn it on. The Dyson V11 has a button on the top to switch modes, and the V10 has a switch on the front to toggle.

Dyson V11 Motor body
Dyson V11 Motor body

Samsung uses buttons to control the vacuum . There is a set of buttons to toggle on and off the Jet 90 and Jet 75, as well as buttons to switch between modes.

Controls are a matter of preference. Some may prefer Samsung’s single button to turn the vacuum on and off as needed. Other’s may want the vacuum only to be on while their holding it, and would want a trigger style control like Dyson’s.

If you are interested, many 3rd parties offer a compatible Dyson Trigger lock. This trigger lock allows you to not have to hold the trigger while cleaning.

#4. Display

The V11, Jet 90, and Jet 75 vacuums all include digital displays to give you more information about the device. The V10 is the only vacuum in this comparison that forgoes the digital display, and just contains a battery indicator light.

Samsung Jet 75 controls
Samsung Jet 75 controls

While the rest of the vacuums include a display, the V11’s is the most robust of the 3. It shows what mode the device is running is as well as has a running countdown showing the remaining run time of the vacuum.

Should you buy the Samsung Jet 75?

I would recommend the Samsung Jet 75 to people who:

  • Performance on a Budget: The Jet 75 is functionally identical to the Jet 90, which means it has the same cleaning performance as the newer model at a cheaper price. If you are looking for a high-end stick vacuum on a budget, this older model will do a great job.

Should you buy the Dyson V11?

I would recommend the Dyson V11 to people who:

  • Excellent automatic performance: The V11 had a cleaning range in the 99-100% removal. The 185AW of suction does a great job at managing a variety of debris types. With the automatic suction adjustment, you never need to worry about which floor type you are on as the vacuum will change to the best setting for the job.

Should you buy the Dyson V10?

I would recommend the Dyson V10 to people who:

  • Cheaper Dyson cleaning performance: Dyson’s stick vacuum performance has continuously impressed us as we have tested each model and the V10 is no different. As it is an older model it comes at a cheaper price. So if you want Dyson’s cleaning but don’t want to spend as much, the V10 is a great choice.
