Best for Max Coverage

If area coverage is your top priority, check out the Levoit LV-H134. This air purifier has a max area coverage of 710 square feet and adjustable fan speeds.

This air purifier was really made to move a lot of air and although it has a larger body style, if you have a large space, the H134 could easily fit the bill.

In addition, this purifier also has an auto mode setting that detects real-time air quality and helps adjust the fan speed to accommodate changing air conditions.

The air quality is indicated via a colored LED ring that encircles the central display on top of the unit.

Best for Small Spaces

If you’ve got a small space and looking for an air purifier that will treat the air without breaking the budget, the Levoit Core 300 is a fantastic option.

This air purifier has 3 manually adjustable fan speeds and a dim, low-output sleep mode.

It lacks an Auto Mode, but for small spaces, you can simply turn it on and adjust as needed.

In addition to its solid cleaning performance, this purifier has four different filters you can choose from.

Available specialty filters include:

3. Mold + Mildew
4. Original HEPA

While the Levoit LV-H132 is slightly less expensive and has less are coverage (129 sf max), I still found the Core 300 to be the better value for small spaces.

Best Value

For a balance of size, performance, and usability, there are two models worth highlighting. The biggest difference between these two models is Auto Mode.

#1. Levoit Vital 100

For the best value WITHOUT an Auto Mode, check out the Levoit Vital 100.

This is a fairly large unit that has the ability to purify up to 500 sf of air space. Even so, the price is just a touch higher than that of the Levoit air purifiers with almost half the area coverage.

#2. Levoit LV-PUR 131

For the best value WITH an Auto Mode, check out the Levoit LV-PUR 131. The treatable area drops from 500 down to 322 with this model (and the price is more), but the inclusion of the Auto Mode may be worth it for some people.

The Levoit PUR 131 is the least expensive model from Levoit that offers an Auto Mode, which helps to make it a better value. Although, if you need greater area coverage, the H131 or H134 may be better suited for your space.

Best Budget

If you’re looking for a more budget friendly air purifier that still has good area coverage (up to 161 sf), the Levoit Vista 200 may be the right choice.

This air purifier lacks an auto mode, but it has three fan speeds, and a modern, rounded body style that closely mimics the look of the Levoit Core 300.

Levoit Performance

To test the full performance of any air purifier that comes through our doors, we use the same testing process.

Our results are based on an at-home usage test where we measure indoor air quality before running the purifier and after running it for an hour.

How well do Levoits perform?

So the million dollar question—do the Levoit air purifier clean the air?

The answer is generally an all-around yes, regardless of exactly which model you go with.

How do we test?

We compare the results by looking at the overall air quality index, and particulate count based on PM2.5 and PM10.

What does it mean?

• PM2.5 is the number of particles in the air that are 2.5mm or smaller.
• PM10 is the number of particles in the air that are 10mm or smaller.

For all of our measurements, we use a professional air quality detector.

Since we run all of the Levoit air purifiers through the same test and through the same (or similarly sized) room, the difference in area coverage didn’t really seem to have a noticeable impact on performance during our tests.

Here is how the Levoits performed when we crunched the numbers:

The numbers listed in the table above represent the performance of each air purifier after an hour of running in a closed room.

Although the baseline data of each test varied, the important number is how low PM2.5, PM10, and total particulates got with each purifier.

Quick Summary

The Levoit air purifiers with the best performance during our tests include the Levoit LV-H134 and the Levoit LV-H133.

Both of these purifiers took PM2.5 and PM10 down to 0.1 and particulate count to under 15 particles. These results are fantastic.

For a good balance of performance and budget, the Levoit Vital 100 and the Levoit Core 300 both performed exceptionally well.

These purifiers took PM2.5 and PM10 down to 0.4 or lower and particulate count to under 30 particles.

Considering the performance alone, all of the Levoits were really great. The only air purifier that didn’t get the AQI down to 0 is the Levoit LV-H132.

Area Coverage Comparison

Here is a complete list of all current Levoit air purifiers that we’ve tested to date, in order of smallest area coverage to the greatest:

Levoit Size & Dimensions

The size of any Levoit air purifier varies greatly depending on area coverage.

The Levoit lineup ranges from small compact purifiers small enough fit on a small coffee table to a large purifier designed to sit on the floor and treat large rooms.

Small Levoits

The smallest Levoit air purifiers include the following models:

All of these purifiers have a compact circular body with rounded edges. They are small enough that they can sit on the floor, tabletop, or other flat surface.

Medium Size

For a medium-sized air purifier, there are two models that come to mind:

Both of these are quite a bit taller than the smaller Levoit purifiers and also quite a bit wider. But still, the flat back design allows this style to fit pretty compact up against a wall.

In addition, the larger air coverage can make this size of purifier a better choice for larger spaces.

Large Size

The largest Levoits are round like the small purifiers, but about twice the height and twice the width. These are big units and really can take up quite a bit of space in a room.

Size vs. Coverage

As you can see above, there tends to be a strong correlation between area coverage and overall size.

Larger air purifiers are able to move more air and also typically have larger on-board filters for better air purification.

Levoit Filtration

All of the Levoit air purifiers in this comparison use the same HEPA filtration system although the exact filter and size may vary. There are basically three types of filters.

The list below shows the three types of filters and which Levoit purifiers have each different kind of filter:

Small 360° HEPA

Round air purifiers use a 360° HEPA filter that slides into the bottom of the purifier. This is the smallest filter that Levoit offers, but the 360° coverage makes this style of filter incredibly efficient for its size.

Large 360° Filter

This filter is significantly larger than the small 360° filter and is designed to fit the largest Levoit purifiers.

For size comparison, the image below shows the large 360° filter next to the round filter used in Dyson air purifiers.

NOTE: The Dyson filter is larger than the Small 360° filter.

Slim Rectangle Filter

The rectangle Levoit filter is more typical of what you would see in a central air return in your home (though it’s still considerably thicker and better at filtering).

It is slim and has a rigid frame along the perimeter to help the filter retain its shape.

The large surface area provides maximum filtration for the large area coverage of these rectangular purifiers.

How do these filters work?

All of these filters are HEPA filters, which rely on folds in the filter paper to trap finite particles down to 0.3 microns.

As dirty air enters the system, the filter traps debris, allergens, and bacteria, so that only clean air is recirculated back into the room.

Access & Maintenance

All Levoit purifiers in this review have a filter indicator button icon on the control panel that shows when it’s time to replace the filter by glowing red LED light.

Filters are quick to access by removing either the front cover panel (for the rectangle units) or unlocking the circular base on the round purifiers and sliding the filter out.

Levoit Design

The design of any Levoit air purifier can be broken down by a few different factors, but many factors tend to overlap between models.

For example, no Levoit air purifiers come with a remote control or offer any kind of smartphone control or voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, etc.

How is it controlled?

Controls on all units are located at the top of the purifier via a touchscreen LED digital display, but the exact design and placement of each user interface tends to vary.

There are three basic styles of control locations.

Here’s a quick look at where the controls are located on each model:

Inner Ring 1.0

The controls on the Vista 200, Core 300, and Core P350 are all identical. The interface is located directly in the middle of the purifier with controls that include:

• Power on / off
• Adjust fan speed
• Nightlight
• Filter replacement indicator
• Dimmable lights
• Timer
• Sleep mode

These controls are touchscreen, but there are no numbers on this version.

Inner Ring 2.0

For a more advanced center control with Auto mode, there is also the LV-H133 and LV-H134.

Both of these interfaces have the same central location and basically the same function, but the buttons are in slightly different places.

Controls include:

• Power on / off
• Adjust fan speed
• Filter replacement indicator
• Dimmable display
• Timer
• Sleep mode
• Auto mode

There is also a number pad that shows the timer as adjustable numbers, which is a feature unique to these two models.

Outer Ring

One Levoit air purifier in this comparison, the LV-H132, positions the controls on the top, but along the outer perimeter of the vent.

Controls include:

• Power on / off
• Nightlight (with two different brightness settings)
• Filter replacement indicator
• Adjust fan speed

Along Straight Edge

The rectangle air purifiers have the controls along a straight edge instead of in a radial pattern. The style of the controls is still very similar, being a touchscreen design with LED backlighting and blue accents.

The controls on the LV-PUR131 are at the top edge of the purifier with the vent directly below it.

By comparison, the controls on the Vital 100 are in the bottom right corner, with the vent above it.

Controls include:

Auto Mode

Auto mode automatically adjusts fan speed based on air quality data taken from a sensor on the air purifier.

The following Levoit air purifiers have Auto Mode:

Levoit purifiers with Auto Mode can automatically adjust the fan speed to appropriately address changing air conditions.

After evaluating the air quality, a colored LED light ring around the display illuminates a certain color to communicate current conditions.

The display colors correlate to the following air quality ratings:

• Red = Poor air quality
• Orange = Moderate air quality
• Green = Good air quality
• Blue = Excellent air quality

Form Factor

There are two different form factors that Levoit offers—round purifiers and rectangle purifiers.

The majority of the Levoit air purifiers in this comparison are round, but there are a few larger rectangle units with greater area coverages.

Round Air Purifiers

Round models have a narrower base and are generally shorter (excluding H133 and H134) than the rectangle models. Levoit models in this review with a round body style include:

Rectangle models are certainly a bit wider and bulkier than the models above, but the straight back makes it easier to place this style of unit up against a wall or next to a piece of furniture.

Setup & Usability

Setup and usability are both quick for all Levoit models. Because there is no smartphone integration or wifi setup, all you really need to do it is:

1. Unbox each purifier
2. Make sure the filter is installed properly
3. Turn the unit on.

At this point, you can either select a manual fan speed or turn the purifier on Auto Mode (if the model permits).

The Auto Mode will self-adjust the fan speed whereas the manual fan speed can be adjusted with the simple touch of a button.

How to care for Levoit purifiers?

As with any other air purifier, there are a few key steps to keeping the unit running smoothly.

Proper maintenance involves:

1. Using a dry cloth to regularly wipe down the air vents to keep it clear of dust and debris.
2. Check the filter and replace as needed.

All Levoit air purifiers have a filter indicator button that illuminates red light when it’s time to replace the filter.

This makes it easier to know when to confidently replace the filter, without throwing out a perfectly good filter prematurely that still has life.
