Our Verdict
As a lounging sofa, 7th Avenue created the perfect extra deep modular sofa that made even our testing staff not want to get up. Its deep seating, memory foam cushions, and solid build quality give the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa the perfect level of comfort, support, and durability we look for in a sofa.
The only issue we found with the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa was the setup. It took more time than we anticipated and the instructions were slightly confusing. However, 7th Avenue does have optional white glove assembly / setup for $100. In my view, that is an absolute no brainer to purchase. The sofa itself is fantastic, the only real pain point is the setup process.

Performance
The 7th Avenue Modular Sofa has exceptional performance as a lounging sofa. With its down alternative and memory foam layered cushions, it provided a well-balanced blend of support and comfort.
Comfort
Exceptional
Support
Very Good
Comfort
When I first sat down on the modular sectional, I could instantly feel relief and comfort from these cushions. The cushions had a good balance of support and plushness that made even our heaviest tester not want to get up. Overall, we rated the comfort as exceptional for this modular system.
Another benefit of the system being modular is the ability to add additional filling to the cushions. The sofa comes with multiple mini packs of cushioning material that can be added to the back cushions or pillows to reach your desired firmness.
Bounce
While sitting on the sofa, there was not a lot of bounce between our testers. Instead, when you first sit down, the cushions form to your bottom and support every inch of your body to prevent bouncing back up.
Sinkage
The 7th Avenue Modular Sofa does have some sinkage to it, however, this isn’t a bad thing. Since the model we tested had the extra deep seats, sinking into the cushions and the back pillows is inevitable.
The sinkage only added to comfort the longer we laid on the couch. It wasn’t so soft that we were absorbed into the cushions. In addition, it wasn’t so firm that it felt like the ground. It was a perfect balance, in my opinion.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief was excellent for the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa. No matter which way you lay or sit on the sofa, the cushions and pillow will mold around your body to give you maximum relief.
Support
The 7th Avenue Modular Sofa has a wooden base that offers the cushions, side arms, and back paneling good support. The base keeps movement to a minimum as all the panels, base, and seats are securely connected.
Firmness
The 7th Avenue Modular Sofa is one of the softer sofas we have tested to date. Coming in with a 4 on the firmness scale, this sofa feels like you’re sitting on a cloud.
Design
The design of the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa is excellent for the owner to design a unique sofa for their needs. With all of the 7th Avenue sofas based on this universal design, there is no limit to the layout and design of your sectional.
As we were assembling the sofa, we couldn’t help but think of ideas and ways that rearrange the pieces to meet different needs.
Legs
The legs are quite short for this sofa. There is little clearance between the couch and the flooring. It almost gives off the appearance that the sofa is on the ground. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get a vacuum cleaning head underneath this sofa.
Base / Seat
The base has a wooden frame and is lightweight enough to move around. It has multiple connection points on all four sides, again offering the owner multiple design options for each piece. One of the main options, being the extension piece, makes a normal base seat into an extended deep seat.
Be careful though, depending on which base seat you order (regular or extra deep), you will only receive a cushion cover for that size base seat. For example, if you decide a few months down the road to turn your regular seat into a deep seat and purchase the extension, both the cushion and the cushion cover will not be big enough to fit the extension.
Arms
The arms come in two different sizes: one for the regular-sized couch (39”), and another for the extra deep design (47”). We reviewed the extra deep model, which requires the extra deep arms. With this couch being modular, it did come with the option to add the shorter arms, and not make the extra deep version.
Back
The back of the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa has a lower design that hides the backboards below the pillows. In my opinion, this gives the sofa excellent lounging capabilities since the pillows can move and flex beyond the boundaries of the backboard.
However, it does make it slightly uncomfortable if you were planning on sitting upright. Since there is a short backboard, there is no support for upper parts of your back.
Pillows
For each base block that you order, the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa comes with an extra-plush pillow. They have convenient zippers on the bottom that make it easy to adjust for your desired comfort level. The pillows do come with extra padding, which can be added to the pillows or back cushions to increase their firmness.
Quality Test
Our build quality test is a subjective test where we examine and assess the major material and design components of the sofa. Specifically, we are looking for build and design issues that are more likely to break and/or be difficult to use.
Part | Build Quality |
---|---|
Overall | Exceptional |
Fabric Cover | Excellent |
Legs | Excellent |
Cushion Material | Excellent |
Back Cushions | Exceptional |
Pillows | Exceptional |
Ottomans | n/a |
Arms | Exceptional |
Base | Excellent |
The build quality of the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa was excellent. The base, arms, and backing all fit together without any major wobbling or feeling they are not securely attached. The base seats felt well constructed and built for repeated use.
Our only recommendation is to be wary of choosing lighter color fabrics. During assembly, the covers get dirty fast. Every hand-print and small dirt debris stuck to the cover and was easily visible with the white color fabric we tested.
Assembly
Assembly took a significantly longer than anticipated. Instead of paper instructions that detail how to assemble the furniture, 7th Avenue has links to videos on YouTube that go through the setup. This did lead to some confusion on parts and which ends connect.
Setup Time
2.5 hours
Setup Difficulty
Fair
While assembling and connecting the base seats with the extensions, we required some “force” to get the pieces to connect. At several points during the assembly process it required 3 people working together to press the pieces together before joining them with the screw.
We recommended having at least two people for assembly to help push together and connect the pieces.
Overall, we were quite disappointed with the setup difficulty and setup time. This is easily the most difficult to assemble sofa we’ve tested to date.
Optional White-Glove Setup – 7th Avenue sells optional professional setup for $100 extra. Given that difficulty of assembling the sofa this extra cost feels like an absolute no brainer to us. I would recommend it to anyone buying this sofa.

Compared to several of the other modular sofas and sectionals we have tested to date, the 7th Avenue received high scores in comfort and quality of material. We have tested others with similar build quality, however, those were pre-built and did not have the same user design options.
Because of the modular nature, it took a considerable amount of time to set up compared to others we have tested. But in the end, the longer assembly time proves worth it once you take your first seat on the 7th Avenue Modular Sofa.
