Cleaning Test
Let’s start with arguably the most important part of any vacuum cleaner: how well it cleans.
To test cleaning performance, we use the LG CordZero on 3 different floor types, hardwood floors, low pile carpet, and high pile carpet, and on 4 different debris types: sugar, rice, kitty litter, and cereal.
We used the universal power nozzle (aka, the standard full cleaning head) with the vacuum on turbo for these tests.
Overall cleaning performance of the CordZero was great, with some notable exceptions. The vacuum was able to remove 85.6% of total debris by weight across all 3 floor types.
Overall
85.6%
Hardwood
83.0%
Low Carpet
84.0%
High Carpet
89.8%
Across all floor types the vacuum struggled to remove cereal completely. During our testing, the vacuum would clog while removing the cereal. After which, it would spit the cereal back out on the testing lane.
We think this was due to the way the telescoping wand connects with the dust bin possibly being too narrow. When the vacuum takes in a large quantity of cereal too quickly, the narrow design can clog up at this connection point.
This may be something you want to be aware of, if you are often vacuuming larger debris. However, this is a tough test and it’s not uncommon for cordless stick vacuums to struggle.
If you remove cereal from the equation, the performance is drastically improved.
Below is the debris removal performance without the cereal test:
Overall
98.1%
Hardwood
100.0%
Low Carpet
97.3%
High Carpet
96.9%
Hardwood Floor Cleaning
On hardwood floors, the CordZero removed 83.3% of all debris types. This doesn’t quite tell the whole story, as the vacuum was able to remove 100.0% of sugar, rice, and kitty litter. However, it was only able to remove 33.0% of the cereal.
Kitty Litter
100.0%
Rice
100.0%
Cereal
33.0%
Sugar
100.0%
The universal power nozzle is low to the ground and has a hard time getting on top of the cereal, pushing it around more than picking it up.
You will most likely want to switch to the crevice or combination tool to more easily handle larger debris messes. Even then, you will want to make sure to go slowly, as sucking in larger debris too quickly can lead to clogging.
Low Pile Carpet Cleaning
During our low pile carpet test, the LG CordZero was able to remove 84.0% of the overall debris.
Kitty Litter
99.0%
Rice
99.0%
Cereal
43.2%
Sugar
94.0%
This score was largely due to the larger cereal debris, only removing 43.2% of the cereal from the carpet. Beyond that, the vacuum performed well, only leaving behind a small amount of sugar.
The missed sugar was most likely a result of not enough suction and/or a brushroll that didn’t agitate deep enough into the carpet.
High Pile Carpet Cleaning
High pile carpet showed a similar story to the other floor types, however it did show some improvement in relation to cereal. The high pile carpet forced the intake of debris to be slower, reducing the likelihood that the device would clog.
Kitty Litter
98.0%
Rice
97.2%
Cereal
68.4%
Sugar
95.6%
It did leave behind small amounts of kitty litter, rice, and sugar, however, the majority of missed debris was the cereal.
Overall, it removed 89.8% of the total debris.
Hair Test
Here is the process for our hair test, we:
- Lay down long strands of hair
- Run the vacuum directly over the hair
- Check the floor to see if all hair was removed
- Check the brushroll to see if any hair has tangled
Here’s the hair test performance:
Hair Removed?
100%
Hair Tangled?
Minor
The LG CordZero was able to pick up all the hair from the floor. However, a small amount of hair was tangled around the brushroll after cleaning.
While it did do a decent job at managing the incoming hair, it should be something to keep in mind if you are often cleaning up long strands of hair while vacuuming.
Pet Fur Test
Here is how we perform our pet fur test:
- Lay down pet fur on high pile carpet
- Run the vacuum directly over the fur
- Check floor to see if all fur is removed
- Check the nozzle to see if any fur got tangled or clumped up
Here’s how the CordZero performed on Pet fur:
Hair Removed?
95%
Hair Tangled?
None
For this test, the CordZero came with a specific nozzle to clean pet fur, so we made sure to use that one.
LG’s CordZero did an excellent job at cleaning up the pet fur. The pet nozzle was able to agitate the carpet well enough to suck up most of the pet fur. I only noticed trace amounts of pet fur after our tests.
In addition, the pet nozzle did not clog or tangle with any pet hair. Overall, excellent performance when it comes to pets.
Mop Cleaning Test
The LG CordZero All in One also includes a robust spinning mopping attachment. This nozzle is easy to set up and start using. We filled the water tank, attached the mop heads, and cleaned the floor in our office and studio space.
The mop nozzle has 3 modes for water output.
- No water
- Low water
- High water
This allows you to adjust the output of water depending on what kind of cleaning needs to be done.
Below are the before and after shots for the mopping test:

Performance
Excellent
The A939KBGS did a good job while mopping. It was simple to set-up and the versatility of the device made it easy to clean the whole floor. While it may not have the same performance as a dedicated mop, it is a great fit for every day cleaning and spot cleaning as needed.
Run time Test
The run time of the CordZero will vary drastically depending on how you use it. The manufacturer states the vacuum has a range of 12-120 minute depending on which mode, and which nozzle you use.
Below you’ll see the exact times we recorded in our run time tests:
Normal
56:10
Power
29:06
Turbo
07:11
We found the range to be between 7 to 56 minutes. These tests were run with the telescoping wand, the universal power nozzle (aka primary full-sized cleaning head), and a single battery.
That being said, if you use it in handheld mode, or with a different nozzle you should expect different run times.
Additionally, the vacuum comes with a back-up battery that can be charged in the base. That way, if the vacuum runs out of battery while you are cleaning, you can easily replace the battery with a full one and continue cleaning.
Noise Test
In addition, we tested how loud the vacuum and self-empty dust bin were. We perform this test by having the vacuum run on the three different modes and use a sound meter to measure noise level.
We tested the vacuum from about 3’ away.
Our results showed the following decibel levels from each mode:
Normal
54.5 dB
Power
57.8 dB
Turbo
62.9 dB
Self-Empty
66.4 dB
For reference, 50-60 dB is around the same noise level as a quiet office or moderate rain coming down.
60-70 dB is a typical conversation volume or the hum of a refrigerator when you’re standing near.
Usability Test
Using LG’s all in one vacuum was excellent. It comes with a plethora of features that make using the vacuum that much easier.
We tested the usability of the vacuum by using it in a wide variety of scenarios, and seeing how well it performed, or if there were any notable issues.
Sofa Crevice
Excellent
Sofa Surface
Excellent
Sofa Under
Excellent
We started by cleaning on, in, and around a sofa. The vacuum can easily switch between the various nozzles and different lengths to best fit the situation.
With the use of these tools we were able to easily clean in the tight spots around the cushions, the cushions and fabric of the sofas, and easily reach under the sofa as well.
The vacuum was able to lay almost completely flat in order to reach under the couch, and the telescoping wand made it even easier to reach those farther corners along the wall.
Additionally, you can remove the telescoping wand and make the vacuum hand-held for finer control of the device.
In addition, the body of the vacuum has the Kompressor Technology. By moving the level on the side of the dust bin, you can compress the debris into the bottom half. This helps to prevent clogs and store more debris while you are cleaning.
We also tested how well the vacuum was able to reach and clean tight edges and corners. The ability to switch the nozzles quickly and adjust the reach of the vacuum with the telescoping wand made cleaning these tight spots easy.
Overall, the vacuum is designed to fit a wide variety of needs, and it performed well during our cleaning tests.
The Base
The most notable feature the A939 comes with is the self-emptying base. When you place the CordZero on the base it will automatically empty the dust bin into the base debris bag. This can also be done manually at any time with the press of a button.
The base is designed to house all the accessories you will need to tackle any mess. On top of the base is a control panel that when opened shows a slot to charge the extra battery that comes with the device.
On the side of the base are two clips that can hold the larger universal power nozzle, and/or the mop nozzle attachments. That way you can quickly access them as needed.
When you open the two side panels of the self-emptying base you can find more clips and slots for the other attachments that come with the vacuum.
In addition, you will find the dust bag, motor protection filter, and exhaust filter.
Maintenance
Maintaining the CordZero is incredibly easy due to the self-emptying dust bin. With the self-empty base you’ll never need to manually empty the on-board dust bin. Instead, you simply replace the base debris bag as needed.
As a result, you never need to get your hands dirty with dust & dirt.
To make maintaining the device even easier, the pre-filter, HEPA filter, and removable cyclone can be easily removed and washed. This reduces overall maintenance costs and keeps the vacuum running smoothly for longer.
Additionally, the device comes with an extra pre-filter and debris bags, so you can replace those as needed.
App Connectivity
The vacuum can also connect with the LG ThinQ app to help you manage your device. The app will give you reports on the usage of your vacuum and let you know the current status of the device.
Size & Dimensions
The CordZero vacuum is moderately sized for a cordless stick vacuum.
The exact dimensions of the vacuum are:
- Width – 10.2”
- Depth – 10.6”
- Height – 44.1”
- Weight – 6.0 lbs.
The vacuum cannot stand on its own, but does have the charging and self-emptying base.
The base for the vacuum is a little bit larger than the average base, but that is mostly due to its capabilities.
The exact dimensions of the base are:
- Width – 10.0”
- Depth – 11.7”
- Height – 39.7”
- Weight – 22.3 lbs.
This base stores all the accessories and also includes the self-emptying dust bin. The replaceable dust bag is 0.6 L and can hold roughly 2-months of debris.
However, your mileage may vary. Many consumers may get 3-12 months before needing to replace the bag.
Accessories
The LG CordZero comes with a variety of accessories.
This is what comes in the box:
- All-in-One Tower
- Vacuum Body
- Telescoping Wand
- Pet Nozzle
- Combination Tool
- Universal Power Nozzle
- Crevice Tool
- 2 Batteries
- Extra Pre-Filter
- 3 Tower Bags
The Nozzles
The universal power nozzle is the most versatile of the included accessories. It can be used on a variety of surfaces, although noise level will vary depending on the surface.
The pet nozzle can be used for soft surfaces and for pet hair removal. It is important to note that LG recommends not using this nozzle on specific surfaces like clothing, leather sofas, carpet, and vinyl flooring as it could lead to damage over time.
The included crevice tool is used to clean narrow spaces or tight edges. It works similarly to other crevice tools we have used in the past.
The combination tool has a crevice mode and a brush mode. The crevice mode can be used to clean flat surfaces like sofas or mattresses, while the brush mode is great for delicate surfaces.
The telescoping wand can be extended or contracted depending on your needs. Notably, this is a feature you don’t see on Dyson’s line of cordless stick vacuums.
All the nozzles work on with the CordZero in hand-held mode or they can attach to the telescoping wand if extra reach is needed.
Should you buy the LG CordZero All in One Auto Empty vacuum?
I would recommend the LG CordZero All in One Auto Empty vacuum if you’re looking for the following features:
- Excellent Performance: In our cleaning tests, we found the performance of the CordZero A939KBGS to be excellent. While it struggled with large cereal, cleaning performance on all other debris types, including pet & human hair, was effectively flawless.
- Auto Empty Base: This all in one base allows you to easily manage your vacuum. Whether you need to charge an extra battery, quickly switch to a different tool, or empty the dust bin, the base can handle it all for you. Additionally, it also acts as a stand for the vacuum so you aren’t leaving it lying around or standing in a corner.
- Compressing dust bin: The compressing dust bin is great for managing voluminous debris like pet hair. If you are often cleaning up pet fur, this will allow you to compress the debris and extend the amount of time you have before needing to empty the vacuum.
- Easy maintenance: There are a lot of features that make maintaining the vacuum very easy. The self-emptying dust bin reduces the amount of times you need to worry about the vacuum overall. Additionally, the filters are easily removed and washed. What’s more, you can remove the cyclone and wash it as well.
- 2 Quick Swap Batteries: The CordZero can run for nearly an hour on normal power per battery Whether you just need to clean something small, or plan to tackle a large room. The batteries are quick to switch out and allow you to fully tackle the cleaning project.
