Summary
The Okaysou Apollo 718 is a small and simple air purifier that packs great performance. During our tests, the Apollo 718 was able to improve PM2.5 by 96.2% and reduce the airborne particulates 774 to 19. It packs an impressive coverage area of 800 sq. ft. in 1 hour, is easy to set up and use, and comes at a great price.
Purification Test
To test the Okaysou Apollo 718, we set up the air purifier in a medium sized room in our office. I took a baseline measurement before starting the test to measure the current air quality. Then, I let the Apollo 718 run on the highest setting for 1 hour and measured the air quality again.
We can then compare the difference between the starting baseline and the post-run data to determine the performance of the Okaysou Apollo 718
Starting Baseline
- PM2.5: 5.3
- PM10: 9.1
- Particles: 774
- AQI: 22
After 1 Hour
- PM2.5: 0.2
- PM10: 0.2
- Particles: 19
- AQI: 1
After the 1 hour test, the Okaysou Apollo 718 removed 97.5% of airborne particulates from the medium-sized room we tested in (~14’x10’).
The Okaysou Apollo 718 improved PM2.5 air quality by 96.2%
In order to get these measurements, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S+ professional air quality detector. This device allows us to get precise readings and performance bearings before and after the test.
Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality.
Overall, the Apollo 718’s performance was great to see. While I would like to see the PM2.5 and PM10 reduced to 0.1, 0.2 is still a fantastic result.
The Filters
Inside the Apollo 718 lies a 3-in-1 filter that includes the following:
- Pre-filter
- HEPA filter
- Carbon filter
The pre-filter is designed to capture large airborne particulates like pet hair.
Next, the H13 True HEPA filter acts as the main line of defense, capturing particles as small as 0.3 microns.
Finally, the activated carbon filter removes VOCs and reduces odors.
Noise Test
We also tested how loud the air purifier was while running. We perform this test by having the air purifier run on the different modes and use a sound meter to measure noise level. We tested the Okaysou Apollo 718 from about 3’ away.
Our results showed the following decibel levels from each mode.
Sleep/Low
20.6 dB
Medium
26.2 dB
High
37.0 dB
With a noise range from 20-37 dB, the Okaysou will generate noise similar to the sound of a quiet library at the loudest. In our tests, we found the sleep mode and the lowest power setting to generate a similar amount of noise. The only difference being if the display light on the device is on or off.
Common noise levels:
- 20 dB – rustling leaves
- 30 dB – whisper
- 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
- 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
- 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
- 70 dB – traffic, showers
- 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone
Usability Test
The Apollo 718 lacks a lot of the bells and whistles we see with more expensive air purifiers, however, what it lacks in features it makes up for in performance and simplicity. Because of this simplicity, the device has few accessories.
Here is what is in the box:
- Apollo 718 Air Purifier
- H13 True HEPA filter (pre-installed)
- Manual & Warranty information
Setup
With few included accessories, the Okaysou Apollo is incredibly easy to set up. Just make sure you remove all packaging from the device, plug it in, then turn it on.
Controls
The Apollo 718 does not have app connectivity or an included remote. To control the device, users will need to interact with the touch physical touch panel on the device.
With the controls you can:
- Turn on/off device
- Adjust fan speed
- Toggle preset timers (2h, 4h, 6h, 8h)
- Toggle display light
- Check filter life
- Toggle sleep mode
The Apollo 718 does not have an auto mode, however, the inclusion of timers and a sleep mode are pleasant surprises.
Maintenance
Maintenance for the Okaysou is straightforward. The pre-filter is washable, and the HEPA filter will need to be replaced over time.
Okaysou recommends changing the filter every 6-8 months, however filter mileage will depend on use and surroundings. Generally, we find HEPA filters need to be replaced every 6-18 months.
