Best For
- Fantastic purification performance for a compact design.
- Small to medium-sized rooms
- Rooms with heavy odors (Carbon Filter)
- Compact to fit on shelves and table tops
Considerations
- No App Connectivity
- Remote is basic and doesn’t come with much user functionality
- The display is very dim and only displays fan speed
Our Verdict
The new Oransi AirMend air purifier is a small and compact system that packs a punch in air purification. Its powerful fan was able to reduce both PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.1 PPM within the first hour of testing. In addition, the compact design makes it ideal for small to medium-sized rooms where space is a concern. Finally, the build quality is excellent with strong durable plastic.
However, it does have some drawbacks in user functionality. To simply put it, it’s basic. The display and remote have minimal information and usability. With many air purifiers on the market in 2024 coming with WiFi and app connectivity, it’s a bit disappointing to see it missing.
Nevertheless, from a strictly performance and build quality perspective, the Oransi AirMend is fantastic.

Purification Performance
To test the purification performance of the Oransi AirMend, we placed it in a medium-sized room in our office (~14’ x 10`). Next, we lit incense to introduce smoke and other particulates into the air for 30 seconds. After, we use a professional air quality detector to take a measurement of the smoke filled air.
Next, we run the air purifier on the highest fan speed for 2 hours, taking measurements of the air quality at the one hour mark and the end of the test. Here is what we found:
Performance Metric | Starting Measurement | After 1 Hour | After 2 Hours |
---|---|---|---|
PM2.5 | 18.5 ppm | 0.1 ppm | 0.1 ppm |
PM10 | 30.0 ppm | 0.1 ppm | 0.1 ppm |
Particles | 2619 | 59 | 44 |
AQI | 64 | 2 | 2 |
In our air purification tests, the AirMend was able to reduce PM2.5 to 0.1 within 1 hour. This is 0.38 PM2.5 lower than the average of 0.48 PM2.5, based on all of our air purification tests to date.
Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality. Simply, the lower the numbers the better.
This is a fantastic performance for an air purifier of this size. The 2-inch thick HEPA air purifier, paired with the high fan speed, gave this air purifier exceptional scores.
Ozone Test
With most air purifiers ozone generation isn’t an issue. That said, some that use negative ion generators have the potential to create ozone. To test this, we run the Oransi AirMend, letting it run for 1 hour and measure the levels of ozone before and after with an ozone meter device.
Pre-test Ozone
0.0 ppm
Post-test Ozone
0.0 ppm
In our ozone tests, the Oransi AirMend generated 0.0 ppm of ozone.
Filters
The specific model we tested comes with a thick 2-inch HEPA filter that has an attached prefilter. Oransi offers an alternative 2-inch thick carbon filter (not tested) to help remove odors. However, you cannot have both these filters in at the same time.
Pre-Filter – Pre-filters are designed to catch larger particulates and debris before it makes its way to the primary filters. This can include hair, lint, and more.
Carbon Filter – Carbon filters are able to remove smells, odors, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
HEPA Filter – The HEPA filter is the primary filtration layer. It removes ultra small particulates including dust, pollen, mold, and more.
Coverage
The AirMend has a coverage area of 780 sq. ft with a CADR of 208. It is best suited for a bedroom or small apartment.
Coverage Area
780 sq. ft.
CADR
208 CFM
Comparing the Airmend to the average, we see it is slightly larger. Across all air purifiers we’ve tested to date, the average coverage area is 746 sq. ft. and the average CADR is 286 CFM.
Wind Speed Test
Our wind speed test uses an anemometer placed directly on the air vents of the Oransi AirMend to measure the fan speeds in miles per hour. We run it on the lowest and highest fan speeds and record the speed of the air coming out of the device.
Minimum Wind Speed
3.6 mph
Maximum Wind Speed
6.9 mph
In our wind speed test, the AirMend was able to generate a maximum wind speed of 6.9 mph. This is 5.05 mph lower than the average of 11.95 mph, based on all of our wind speed tests to date.
The output is on the back of the AirMend and forces the air vertically. We recommend keeping this air purifier away from loose papers or curtains when using it at its maximum fan speed.
Build Quality Test
Our build quality test is a subjective test where we examine and assess the major material and design components of the air purifier. Specifically, we are looking for build and design issues that are more likely to break and/or be difficult to use.
The Oransi AirMend is simple and plain. Now, being plain isn’t a necessarily bad thing, as this is well-assembled and feels durable. It’s simply built for its job and doesn’t come with any fancy style or colors.
Part | Build Quality |
---|---|
Overall | Excellent |
Body | Exceptional |
Fan | Excellent |
Filters | Exceptional |
Controls | Good |
Display | Good |
Remote | Good |
Wheels | n/a |
Like most air purifiers, the body is constructed of plastic. It doesn’t have flimsy paneling or loose plastic as we have seen in past tests. In comparison, the build quality is up there with the top air purifier brands.
Noise Test
To determine the level of noise that the AirMend creates we use a sound meter and measure the decibel levels on both the lowest and highest fan speeds. In addition, we measure the ambient noise levels of the room as a baseline comparison.
Ambient Noise
41.7 dB
Min Noise
46.0 dB
Max Noise
70.3 dB
In our noise tests, the Oransi generated 70.3 dB of noise on the max fan speed. This is 7.69 dB higher than the average of 62.61 dB, based on all of our noise tests to date.
Even though this noise level is louder than the average, we didn’t find it too obnoxious on its max fan speed. The AirMend does have a wide range of speed settings with different noise levels.
Usability
The overall useability and functionality of the Oransi AirMend is good, but not great. Thanks to the simplistic design, it lacks some usability features we see with other air purifiers.
Setup
Setup took no more than 5 minutes to remove from the box, remove the filter plastic, and plug it in. Since there is no app connectivity, right when it’s turned on, it begins purifying the air around you.
Controls & Display
Controls and displays are basic and not like most modern air purifiers. It has a basic display on the front that gives a dim green LED light to display the fan speed. Nothing fancy, just simple.
Wireless Controls
The only wireless control feature on the Oransi AirMend is a small remote. You can turn the air purifier on / off, and adjust the fan speed. Something we didn’t like about the remote was the lack of information it provided. Most modern air purifiers have app connectivity or remote with user interface displays.

Maintenance
The Oranis AirMend has an estimated yearly maintenance cost of $50 when using the HEPA Filter. However, If you use the Carbon Filter, that yearly maintenance cost goes up to $70
Task | Description | Est. Annual Cost |
---|---|---|
HEPA Filter | Replace every 12 months | $50 |
Carbon Filter | Replace every 12 months | $70 |
Pre Filter | Wash and replace as needed | $10 |
Size & Dimensions
The Oranis AirMend is a compact air purifier. Its small design allows this air purifier to hide in rooms and fit on small tables or shelves. It’s not heavy and has no odd body shapes to accommodate. Looking at other similar-sized compact air purifiers, it comes with slightly larger cube dimensions. However, that trade-off comes with more coverage and top-tier purification performance.

Product Evolution
This is the first model of the AirMend series. It comes in several different variants and filter options. The first is the one we tested, the AMD-200H medium room HEPA air purifier. This model comes with just the HEPA filter and attached prefilter. There is a smaller coverage-sized model (the AMD-150H) that offers 71 sq ft. less coverage.
Oransi also offers a carbon filter model. This replaces the HEPA filter with a 2-inch thick carbon filter to help tackle heavy odor rooms. They also offer this variant in small and medium room coverage.
It is important to note that currently Oransi only offers the AirMend with an option for a HEPA or Carbon Filter. You cannot run both filters at the same time. Oransi does make another system called the Mod, which comes with a HEPA & Carbon filter inside. The Mod series comes in 3 sizes depending on the air coverage needed.

FAQs
Oransi states on their website that the filters should be replaced every 12 months. We agree that most filters (depending on their environment) should be replaced between 8-12 months.
No, the Airmend is mechanical filtration only.
We recommend against that. According to Oransi, the carbon AirMend model has a higher power motor specific for the carbon filter. While it can accept it, it may damage the motor and/or reduce its effectiveness in removing odors.
