Lightweight HEPA Air purifier

AIRDoctor 2000

AirDoctor 2000

The AirDoctor 2000 is a HEPA air purifier that is simple in design. It lacks app connectivity or a remote control, but has fantastic air purification performance. In our tests, it reduced PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.1, showing nearly perfect results. While it may not have all the cutting edge features, it still has an auto and sleep mode, as well as preset timers. Furthermore, the device is easy to move around thanks to the lightweight design and indented handles.

Pros

  • Fantastic performance; reducing PM2.5 & PM10 to 0.1
  • Auto and sleep mode
  • Easy to move around

Cons

  • Pricer option considering the coverage area
  • Lacks remote control or app connectivity

Summary

The AIRDoctor 2000 had fantastic performance in our tests. It reduced PM2.5 and PM10 down to 0.1, has a noise range of 26 – 54 dB, and is simple usability. The 10 pounds and handle indents make it easy to move around in case the 610 sq. ft. coverage area doesn’t cover everything. Overall, if you want an air purifier that just works, this is a fantastic choice.

Purification Performance

To test the purification performance of the AirDoctor 2000, we place it in a medium (~14’x10’) sized room in our office. Next, we use a professional air quality detector, the Temtop LKC-1000S+, to take a baseline measurement of the current air quality.

We then let the air purifier run for 1 hour on the max setting. After the test, we take another measurement of the air quality and compare the post-test data to the baseline.

Starting Baseline

  • PM2.5: 0.9
  • PM10: 1.6
  • Particles: 189
  • AQI: 3

After 1 Hour

  • PM2.5: 0.1
  • PM10: 0.1
  • Particles: 34
  • AQI: 1

During the 1 hour test, the AirDoctor 2000 was able to improve PM2.5 air quality by 88.9%, and removed 82% of air particulates.

Reducing PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.1 is exactly what we are looking for with an air purifier. In general, we are looking for these numbers to be as low as possible, so 0.1 is effectively perfect air quality.

Below, we’ve included information on the testing criteria and what defines good vs. bad air quality.

The Filters

To purify the surrounding air, the AD2000 uses 4 different filters. These include:

  • Pre-filter
  • HEPA filter
  • Activated carbon filter
  • Negative ion generator

The pre-filter catches the largest airborne particulates like hair or pet fur, while the HEPA filter catches the smaller particles down to 0.3 microns.

The carbon filter works in tandem with the others, eliminating VOCs and other odors.

Finally, the negative ion generator attaches negative ions to airborne particulates. The negative ion attachment causes airborne particulates to fall to the floor, making them no longer a threat to your air quality.

Noise Test

For the noise test, we run the AirDoctor 2000 on each setting, measuring the level of noise generated with a sound meter app. We do this from about 3’ away and then record our findings.

Our results showed the following decibel levels from each mode.

Low

26.8 dB

Medium

31.3 dB

High

39.7 dB

Turbo

53.2 dB

We measured a noise range of 26 – 54 dB for the AIRDoctor 2000. If you are concerned about noise while you sleep, the lowest power setting should be sufficiently quiet.

Common noise levels:

  • 20 dB – rustling leaves
  • 30 dB – whisper
  • 40 dB – quiet library, babbling brook
  • 50 dB – refrigerator, moderate rainfall
  • 60 dB – normal conversation, dishwashers
  • 70 dB – traffic, showers
  • 80 dB – alarm clock, telephone dial tone

Usability Tests

Overall usability for the AirDoctor 2000 is good. It aims to keep things simple and focus on performance rather than bells and whistles. That said, it still has some key features that make using the AD 2000 better.

Setup

Setup is quick and easy, requiring only a few steps before the AirDoctor is up and running.

You will need to make sure to remove the packaging from around the filters, which are pre-installed and the device is ready to run.

Controls & App

On top of the AirDoctor 2000 is a touch control panel to change the settings of the device.

With these buttons you can:

  • Turn on/off
  • Change fan speed
  • Turn on/off auto mode
  • Turn on/off sleep mode
  • Set a preset timer
  • Turn on/off negative ion generator
  • Check remaining filter life

These controls are responsive and easy to interact with.

That said, there is no remote control or app connectivity for AIRDoctor 2000. However, having an auto and sleep mode are still nice touches.

Maintenance

Maintenance is straightforward, requiring the user to replace the filters and clean the sensor as needed. You will be notified by the indicator light when the filter needs to be replaced.

In general, we find HEPA filters need to be replaced every 6-12 months and carbon filters every 12 months. However, the exact filter replacement frequency depends on use and environment and usage.

Size & Dimensions

The AirDoctor 2000 is a smaller air purifier designed for small to medium sized rooms. It can circulate the air in a 305 sq. ft. area 4 times per hour or in a 610 sq. ft. area 2 times per hour.

  • Length – 13.85″
  • Width – 6.60”
  • Height – 18.72”
  • Weight – 10.00 lbs.

The AD2000 is light enough and has handles indented into the side, which makes it easy to move around.

Should you buy the AirDoctor 2000?

I would recommend the AirDoctor 2000 if you’re looking for the following features:

  • Excellent purification performance: Concerning purification performance, we look for the numbers to be as close to 0 as possible. With that in mind, the AIRDoctor 2000 had nearly perfect performance, reducing PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.1. In addition, airborne particulates were reduced from 189 to 34. If you want the absolutely cleanest air, this is a great option.
  • Lightweight simple design: At 10 pounds the AIRDoctor 2000 is not only easy to move around, but easy to use as well. It keeps things simple, focusing on raw performance over convenience features. That said, it still has an auto mode and sleep mode, which are nice additions.
