Hoover Twin Tanks Design

The Hoover Twin Tank steam mop offers a bit of a standard design. Much like most other steam mops, it stands upright like a stick vacuum, it has two separate water tanks, and a cleaning head with an attachable cleaning pad.

DESIGN | The Hoover steam mop has a circular handle with a trigger that is used to produce steam. This handle / stick is connected to the body by a pin connector. The body of the unit houses the power button, cleaning modes knob, and a “ready” light to let users know when the mop can be used.

TWIN TANKS | There are two tanks on this Hoover steam mop. The one on the front is used strictly for water and the one on the back is used for cleaning solution. Both of these tanks are labeled as well.

CLEANING HEAD | The cleaning head is built in an arrow shape and holds onto the cleaning pads with velcro. The carpet glider tool can also be snapped onto the cleaning head for steam cleaning carpets and rugs.

AESTHETIC | The Twin Tanks steam mop has a blue and white color scheme. The look is simple, but well done overall.

How Hoover Twin Tanks Cleans

The Hoover Twin Tanks cleans through a couple of different styles:

• Steam only
• General clean
• Spot clean
• Tough stains

While each of these styles uses a steam cleaning method, they all have a different way of using that steam.

Steam Only

The steam only method simply means that steam is used to sanitize your floors. This method is best used for a light cleaning session.

General Clean

The general clean style is used to combine the cleaning solution and water tanks for a light, general purpose cleaning.

Spot Clean

The spot clean mode uses a burst of steam to help agitate and lift sticky residue off of your floors.

Tough Stains

The tough stains mode is used to get hard stains off of your floors by combining the cleaning solution and water to create a more powerful clean that is able to remove these stains.

What accessories come with Hoover Twin Tanks?

Contrary to most steam mops, this Hoover does include a few extra parts and accessories.

The pieces included are as follows:

Cleaning Pads: Three cleaning pads are included with this Hoover steam mop. Two of them are multi-surface cleaning pads and one of them is a hard floor cleaning pad. All of these pads are microfiber.

Carpet glider: The carpet glider tool can be attached to the bottom of this Hoover steam mop and used to help the mop glide along the top of a carpeted surface while steam cleaning.

Cooling tray: A cooling tray is included so users can place the steam mop on the tray instead of back on the floor after a cleaning session.

Cleaning solution: A sample bottle of the cleaning solution is included with the Twin Tanks mop as well. This sample bottle gives users the idea of how well the solution works. If you like it you can always buy more here or you could make a homemade floor cleaner.

Cleaning Tests

The following tests are designed to show how the Hoover Twin Tanks performs as both a mop and a sweeper.

We tested this Hoover as a mop on tile flooring, spreading three different debris types across the floor and attempted to mop the debris up over three separate passes.

Next, we tested the Hoover Twin Tanks steam mop as a sweeper, making several sweeping passes across a dusty hardwood floor. After doing so, we took a look at the floors and made our assessment of the Hoover’s cleaning performance.

Cleaning Score

For starters, the mop test contains three debris types:

• Dirt / mud
• Honey
• Water (dyed green)

Each of these debris types offer a different level of stickiness and consistency, allowing us to test the Hoover Twin Tanks steam mop against a light, heavy, and liquid substance. All three debris types are spread across our testing lane in three separate sections.

Throughout our mopping tests, we try to give real-life examples and be as consistent and fair as possible. The mopping test procedure goes as follows:

1. Measure out 3 oz of water (dyed green for visibility) and spread across the back of the testing lane.
2. Squirt honey in the middle of the testing lane, covering a majority of the width of the lane.
3. Create a muddy substance from dirt and water then spread the mud with a shoe.
4. Make a pass across the testing lane and compare the amount of each debris type mopped up on pass one to the untouched debris.
5. Make pass number two across the lane and analyze the amount of each debris type mopped up.
6. Make a third pass, if necessary.

Mopping Tests

The Hoover Twin Tanks steam mop performed exceptionally well throughout our cleaning tests. With four different modes available, this Hoover was able to lift and remove each of the debris types to a level of at least 95%.

LIQUID CLEANING | The liquid cleaning test (green colored water, for visibility) was the most challenging for the Hoover. That said, it was still able to soak up and remove 95% of the water.

After the initial pass over the water, I found that the cleaning pad did a nice job of soaking up a decent amount of water and not spreading any of the excess across our testing lane.

As I continued to make passes over the water, the cleaning pad soaked up more and more water until it could not hold anymore. At this point, 95% of the water had been soaked up.

MUD & HONEY CLEANING | Mud and honey were simply no match for this Hoover steam mop. Both of these debris types were 100% successes. After making one pass across each of these debris types, the Twin Tanks steam mop was able to lift and remove them with ease.

The honey did show some resistance at first, but once the Hoover pumped out a little more steam, the honey didn’t stand a chance. The mud, on the other hand, was a breeze. I was able to push the steam mop across the mud with ease and there was not a drop of mud left behind.

All in all, the Hoover Twin Tanks steam mop demolished our tests. Its performance was notably better than what we experienced with our Dirt Devil Versa steam mop tests, and similar to the performance of the Shark Genius steam mop.

Sweeping Tests

The sweeping test was similar to the mopping test. I swept across a high foot traffic hardwood floor to determine how well this Hoover steam mop could sweep up dust and dirt from the floor. Once again, the mop did an amazing job of sweeping the floor with a little steam.

SANITIZING | In addition to sweeping power, perhaps the greatest benefit of a steam mop is the ability to quickly sanitize floors. The superheated steam takes care of sanitizing, killing 99% of bacteria and other germs on your floors.

GROUT | The only area where steam mops miss out a little is the ability to clean grout lines. That said, cleaning grout lines wouldn’t be considered normal for most any mop. If grout line clean up is something you’d like in a mop see our Bissell Crosswave review.

Is the Hoover Steam Mop Easy to Use?

Using the Hoover steam mop may look difficult, but it is quite the opposite. The setup process is short and the performance is even better.

Setting It Up

The setup for this Hoover steam mop is extremely easy. Unbox all of the pieces, remove them from their plastic bags, snap the handle into the body of the unit, and attach a cleaning pad…voila! You are ready to use the mop.

Attaching a cleaning pad to the Twin Tanks steam mop is completed by placing the head on the back of the pad.

Fill Tank

Filling the tank is completed by removing the tank from the body of the unit, unscrewing the cap off of the top of the tank, and pouring water into it. Typically, it is easier to hold the tank under a faucet and fill it up that way.

The cleaning solution tank requires the same method, but the actual cleaning solution will be poured out of a bottle into the tank.

Cleaning Pad

When attaching the cleaning pad to the mop, simply lay the pad down (blue side on the ground) and press the head of the Twin Tanks mop down onto the white part of the cleaning pad. The velcro on the bottom of the cleaning head will then grab the pad and hold it in place.

After you have the cleaning pad attached, the only step left to do is plug in the mop and select your cleaning mode. The mop does take about 30 seconds to heat up after a cleaning mode is chosen, so bear that in mind as you start cleaning.

Steam Modes

Choosing between the four steam cleaning modes is simple. All four of the modes are labeled clearly, allowing users to select the most appropriate mode based on the cleaning style they are trying to achieve.

All things considered, the Hoover Twin Tanks steam mop is a bit more complex than some basic mops, but by no means is it a difficult mop to operate.

Maneuverability

The Hoover steam mop does a great job when it comes to maneuverability. This steam mop has an arrow shaped head that swivels quite easily, allowing users to get up against walls and baseboards as well as into tighter corners and crevices.

TURNING | Turning the Hoover Twin Tanks steam mop is quite simple. By rotating the handle, the head of the mop is able to turn easily, giving users the opportunity to rotate around corners as well as furniture in your home.

EASY TO MOVE | Some steam mops we have tested have been difficult to push when starting a cleaning cycle. Yet, this Hoover was extremely easy to push around on all four modes. The steam creates a smooth glide on multiple surfaces.

CARPET GLIDER | Another plus associated with the Hoover steam mop is its carpet glider attachment. This tool allows you to snap a plastic “glider” onto the bottom of the mop and steam clean your carpets. This is used more for sanitary purposes, as the steam helps to lift odors and freshen up your carpets.

Hoover Steam Mop Maintenance

The following table indicates the frequency at which you will likely want to replace the various parts and components of the mop. However, your individual experiences may vary.

Maintaining the Hoover steam mop is simple, but important. The following parts should be watched closely:

• Cleaning pad – The cleaning pad can be removed and washed, but it does need to be replaced once it starts to show wear.
• Water tanks – Filling the water tanks is crucial to the overall performance of this steam mop. Whether it is with just water, or both water and cleaning solution, at least one of the tanks should have something in it at all times.
• Cleaning solution – Be sure to replace your cleaning solution when you have completely run out. The deep clean mode will not work without a cleaning solution.
• Filter – Changing the filter should be completed after every 6 months or so, depending on how often you are using the mop.

Annual maintenance costs for the Hoover steam mop should cost around around $34 / year. This includes a large bottle of cleaning solution, a new cleaning pad, and 2 new filters.

However, if you do choose to make your own homemade floor cleaner, you could save yourself around $8 / year. This would bring annual maintenance costs down to $26 / year.

Hoover Steam Mop a Good Value?

The overall value of this Hoover steam mop is exceptional. The price is well worth the cleaning performance you receive in exchange.

With four different cleaning modes, you’re getting much more than just a basic steam mop.

Throughout our cleaning tests, we saw the Twin Tanks steam mop dominate our debris types.

As we changed the cleaning mode based on the specific debris type, the mop continued to clean well and did not struggle when pushed to the limit.

Maneuverability was strong, but I would have liked to see the cleaning head be a bit slimmer.

The height of the cleaning head does not allow you to get under some tighter spaces (under low hanging furniture), but the overall turning radius and weight of the unit does help its case.

Hoover offers a fairly standard 1-year warranty. Return periods will vary based on retailer, but if you buy on Amazon.com you’ll have their standard 30 day return period.
