Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop Design

The Rubbermaid Reveal spray mop offers a nice design that is easy to handle and even easier to maintain.

DESIGN | This Rubbermaid spray mop contains a standard spray mop design, offering a trigger at the top of the handle, a water tank within the body of the unit, a spray nozzle below the water tank, and a cleaning head with a cleaning pad at the base of the mop.

There is not a lot going on, with regard to design, when looking at the Reveal. That said, the design is simple but certainly balanced enough for what this mop is trying to accomplish.

CLEANING PADS | The cleaning pad is held on by small velcro straps at the ends and center point of the cleaning head.

There is also a small tab that users can pull to remove the cleaning pad. Therefore, you will never have to touch the dirty pad itself.

AESTHETIC | Aesthetically speaking, the Rubbermaid Reveal is simple, but falls in line with the classic Rubbermaid color scheme; red, gray, and white. The overall look is nothing fancy, but it does contain a clean look for a spray mop.

How Rubbermaid Reveal Cleans

The Rubbermaid Reveal cleans in one main way and the process is simple:

1. Squeeze the trigger located on the handle to spray water in front of the mop.
2. Push the mop in the direction at which the water was sprayed and clean it up

SPRAY MOPPING | After spraying the water on the floor, users have the ability to mop the water up and apply pressure to the mop to help lift up stuck on stains or debris.

The cleaning head also contains a rougher scrubbing pad that can be used to agitate and lift tougher messes.

Simply flip the mop head over and scrub the debris with this scrubbing pad, spray the mess again, and mop it once more with the standard cleaning pad.

Accessories & Parts

The Rubbermaid Reveal is quite a simple mop. Therefore, not a lot of extra pieces are required to operate this mop.

The following parts and accessories are included with this spray mop:

Cleaning Pad: A single microfiber cleaning pad is included with the Rubbermaid Reveal spray mop.

Scrubbing pad: In addition, a small scrubbing pad is included with this Rubbermaid mop. This is a non-scratch pad designed to help loosen stubborn stains.

Water tank: One water tank comes with the Reveal spray mop. The water tank can hold 0.65 L, has measurement lines along the side of the bottle, and contains a strong screw on cap to help prevent leaks.

There are no extra accessories available for this mop outside of the three we highlighted. That said, users do have the option to buy multiples of these accessories, which will result in having to wash the cleaning pads less often.

Cleaning Tests

The following tests are designed to show how the Rubbermaid Reveal performs as a mop.

We tested the Rubbermaid Reveal as a mop on tile flooring, spreading three different debris types across the floor and attempted to mop the debris up over three separate passes.

For starters, the mop test contains three debris types:

• Dirt / mud
• Honey
• Water (dyed green for visibility)

Each of these debris types offers a different level of stickiness and consistency, allowing us to test the Rubbermaid Reveal mop against a light, heavy, and liquid substance. All three debris types are spread across our testing lane in three separate sections.

Throughout our mopping tests, we try to give real-life examples and be as consistent and fair as possible. The mopping test procedure goes as follows:

1. Measure out 3 oz of water and spread the water across the back of the testing lane.
2. Squirt honey in the middle of the testing lane, covering a majority of the width of the lane.
3. Create a muddy substance from dirt and water then spread the mud with a shoe.
4. Make a pass across the testing lane and compare the amount of each debris type mopped up on pass one to the untouched debris.
5. Make pass number two across the lane and analyze the amount of each debris type mopped up.
6. Make a third pass, if necessary.

Mopping Tests

The overall cleaning tests on the Rubbermaid Reveal were quite good. There were some blips along the way but in the end we were impressed with this spray mop’s performance.

Water Cleaing

The water cleaning test was by far the toughest test for the Reveal. As we made our first attempt to mop up the water, the cleaning pad did a decent job of absorbing some of the water. However, it also pushed a decent amount of the water in front of the mop’s cleaning head.

From there, we continued to make a few more passes across the water and finally came to realize that it was simply too much for this Rubbermaid spray mop to handle. Although it was able to soak up a decent amount of the liquid, it did spread the remaining water and water soaked up by the pad across our tile floor testing lane.

If this mop were just facing a small liquid spill, it would probably do just fine. Yet, larger spills are not the easiest for the Rubbermaid Reveal to mop up.

Mud Cleaning

This test was a different story. The Reveal spray mop was able to spray water directly on top of the mud, which loosened it and mopped it up with the cleaning head. After a single pass over the mud, more than 95% of it was cleaned up.

Once we made a few extra passes over the mud, we were able to see that the Reveal had no issues handling the mud.

Honey Cleaning

Honey was an interesting test.

Initially, the mop pushed the honey forward, but as we continued to mop the floor, the honey made its way under the mop head and was removed from our testing lane. That said, we did have to use a decent amount of water from the spray mop in order to lift the sticky mess that honey is.

Honey was a bit of a struggle for the Reveal, but in the end it was able to be removed

Is the Rubbermaid Reveal Easy to Use?

Using the Rubbermaid Reveal spray mop is extremely easy. There are no extensive processes required to start using this mop.

SETUP | The Reveal actually shows up fully assembled. Although it arrives in a box, the only tasks you need to complete is removing the mop from the box and the plastic Rubbermaid wrapper from the cleaning head.

FILL TANK | Now that the mop is out of the box and ready to be used, you must fill up the water tank.

To do so, simply pull up on the water tank and remove it from the body of the mop. From there, unscrew the cap and fill the tank with water. Screw the cap back on and replace it right back into the body of the Reveal spray mop.

CLEANING PAD | The cleaning pad comes attached to the bottom of the mop, yet there will come a time where you have to remove it and clean it. This is completed by pulling on a small white tab near the edge of the cleaning pad. This tab will remove the pad and you won’t ever have to touch the dirty cleaning pad.

To replace the cleaning pad back onto the cleaning head, place the pad on the ground and push the cleaning head down on the pad. The velcro will latch on, providing a secure fit onto the mop.

DAILY USE | On a daily basis, this mop is one of the easiest to use. After completing the steps above, squeeze the trigger and push the mop over the areas where water was sprayed. At this point, it is really up to you decide on how you want to clean your floors.

TURNING | This Rubbermaid spray mop has the ability to turn almost 90°. When you rotate the handle the head of the mop will begin to turn and as you push it, the mop will turn a tad bit more.

FLAT LAY | A bonus feature about this mop is its ability to lie flat on the ground. This is a major benefit when cleaning under furniture and other obstacles in your home.

MOVEMENT EASE | Once again, the Reveal is an extremely light mop weighing in at 2.35 pounds. Therefore, it is not difficult to push around when mopping.

During our cleaning tests there were times where the Reveal struggled, but for the most part, this Rubbermaid spray mop did a great job with each debris type it faced.

Maneuverability was good as well. The Reveal can turn sharply, lie flat, and weighs less than 2.5 pounds, making it easy to handle.

Maintenance costs are low, which is just another positive feature about this mop.

Who Should Buy the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop?

The Rubbermaid Reveal is a well-rounded spray mop. Although it offers a simple design, the overall performance is impressive.

I would recommend the Rubbermaid Reveal if you’re looking for the following features in a spray mop:

• Want a spray mop for quick fixes – If you’re in need of a mop that you can quickly grab and use, the Rubbermaid Reveal could be a great choice. Grab it, spray the mess, and mop it up, there’s not much else to it.
• Don’t mind a basic unit – As a simple spray mop, the Reveal does not come with any bells and whistles. It does include a scrubbing pad on the cleaning head, which is a nice addition to the cleaning performance, but there is no steam or powered cleaning offered by this mop.
• Want a great day-to-day performance, but only okay on big messes – Throughout our cleaning tests we saw a strong outing on mud and a pretty good performance against honey and water. The biggest issue was its ability to soak up large amounts of water, however, considering that this is a spray mop type that is to be expected.

Why did the Rubbermaid Reveal score the way it did?

• Design – We felt that the overall design is good, but there is room for improvement. The position of the tank prevented it from squeezing far under furniture.
• Performance – Again, overall very solid performance. The biggest issue was honey pushing the pad off and trying to soak up water. However, with a mop like this, I don’t expect it to soak up as much water as a more traditional mop.
• Quality – Good quality plastics. Cleaning head seems well made, is absorbent, and sizable.
• Usability – Usability is fairly straightforward and was good. The biggest issue was the pad and scrubber coming detached when facing honey.
• Value – Not a bad value by any stretch, but not as good as others, namely the O-Cedar spray mop (which is usually less expensive, for about the same performance).
